D. DeLarge
So how many D40's are left? 5 units, says the Wiki (just updated ). In retrospect, quite a few of those units sounded like they were going to explode.

Where they pretty much identical to the TTC"s? Did they have frame corrosion issues as well? Not bad for lasting that long without rebuild. a.dicion
Where they pretty much identical to the TTC"s? Did they have frame corrosion issues as well? Not bad for lasting that long without rebuild. They were made in the same year as the D40-89's. However, they did not take a beating like the D40-89's did when they were with TTC. YRT had these buses mainly operating during the rush hours, whereas the TTC had their D40-89's operating nearly all day in some instances. Once the D901's retired from Queensway they were the workhorse of the garage up til the V's and VII's came into the picture. Anyways, back to YRT retirements. Sad to see another go. So that leaves us with 5 remaining D40's in the GTA operating in revenue service.

If this is any indication, there are equal numbers of Classics (1989 and 1990) and D40s, and the Classics appear in both Markham and occasional appearances in Richmond Hill, while it's a VERY rare sighting to see a D40 in Markham. IMO, most of the Classics (7-8 of the 9) go out every rush hour while maybe half to 2/3 of the D40s (probably 4-6) go out.

Felix
What time do the D40HFs leave Miller for the school special runs in the afternoon, 2pm? They usually leave the yard between 2 to 2:30 pm on their various school specials/regular route/GO Shuttle interlines.
Downsview 108
Thanks for the tips guys. Worked out perfectly. Today I caught 8914 and 8919 at Richmond Hill GO. Had not been on the YRt since this time in 2002 and I've only rode the D40's once in 2000. Also caught a nice surprise. 2044 (the first non TTC bus I ever photographed) was also there. 8914 (241) 8919 (something else can't remember right now) 2044 (243)
6254
Before 2007, the Classics and D40HFs got similar treatment, around 130 miles a day. Orion I's were least used at about 80 miles a day. Starting 2007, the D40HFs and the Orion Is were least used, about 72 miles a day, the Classics still got about 120 miles a day. In 2008, the D40HFs became even less popular, average daily mileage dropped to about 65 miles. I'll also say this - YRT uses the Classics more frequently than the D40s. If this is any indication, there are equal numbers of Classics (1989 and 1990) and D40s, and the Classics appear in both Markham and occasional appearances in Richmond Hill, while it's a VERY rare sighting to see a D40 in Markham. How about the end of this month? 2044 is the only one for now. 2049, 2051, and 2052 should last into the new year. 2048's safety is the end of this month. PS: There goes the last rollsign Markham bus.
MiExpress
2044 is the only one for now.2049, 2051, and 2052 should last into the new year. 2048's safety is the end of this month. PS: There goes the last rollsign Markham bus. They will all be retired at the end of December at the latest, probably sooner, because their replacements have arrived and are getting ready for service. Miller has a set number of parking spaces available and they have just enough to cover all the 9xx New Flyers when all the scheduled buses are retired. Miller has 23 parking spaces allocated for the 9xx D40LF's, of which 2 are for expansion (routes 42 and 45) and as such 21 buses are/need to be retired as the 9xx are prepared for service, these are: 2034, 2035, 2036 2044, 2045, 2046, 2047 2048, 2049, 2050, 2051, 2052 8912, 8914, 8917, 8918, 8919, 8921, 8922, 8923, 8924 Which = 21 So to clarify buses aren't always going to be retired when the safety comes up, it's a matter of when they need the room. YRT-Guy
So to clarify buses aren't always going to be retired when the safety comes up, it's a matter of when they need the room. Or when the region tells them to retire them, or if frame is shoddy or the engine is about to (or has) blown up.
