Maybe the T-Series should come down a bit, but judging by how many companies have those two types of coaches, I wonder if it is reasonable to assume they are more expensive. Maybe the C-Series is really cheap then, because a H3-45 is probably around $550,000 new? Of course it depends on how well it is equipped.

For the record, Century McMynn is selling a 2008 H3-45 with Series 60 12L with ZF-12SP transmission with a mileage of "10" for $550,000 Canadian dollars.

A 2008 MCI J4500 with same specs (except it has an Allison transmission) is going for $525,000.

If the CBL drivers are correct, this means a Van Hool C-Series coach costs about $220,000 (round up to $250,000?)

A used 2005 C2045 on MCI's website is selling for $269,000, so it must cost more when new!

According to the NDP, building 30 Setras for the Department of National Defence in Canada cost "nearly $500,000 each".

So the revised list becomes:

Prevost H Series - $550,000 in 2008

MCI J4500 - $525,000 in 2008

Setra S417 - $500,000 in 2007

Van Hool T-Series - ??

Van Hool C-Series - ??

Wow, I was way off. :)

Who Would've thought that CBL getting Van Hools would spark such a debate. In any case, when the CBL drivers were told that they were getting Van Hools they were told that these Van Hools would get all the "bells and whistles." They wanted their Van Hools to be better than TRAXX. From what I could see they may have succeeded.

Though keep in mind that the Setra S417 buses built for the Department of National Defence in Canada are probably not equipped with much given they are not buying them to operate for profit. So that likely brings the cost down.

Also 30 coaches at once is a large order of motorcoaches, that would likely have brought the cost down too, buying them in bulk.
