Gateway is a SkyTrain station in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Station Details

Located at 108 Avenue and University Drive, Gateway serves nearby low and high density residential areas. During the planning stage, the station was to be known as 108 Avenue but was later changed to its current name. The station opened in 1994 when the SkyTrain was extended to King George.

During a string of bomb scares on the SkyTrain network in 2012, an explosive device was found on the guideway between Scott Road and Gateway.

Trivia

Gateway Station was the only station on the system to have its name bolded on platform signage. Station identity signage at street level was not bolded. The platform signage was replaced in early 2017 to the current design standard.

In addition, the station identity signage at the 108 Avenue entrance did not follow the tradition BC Transit design standards. The station name is displayed in blue text on a grey background as part of the Station Tower awning, instead of a traditional blue background with white text.

Of all the SkyTrain stations previously owned and maintained by BC Transit, Gateway does not follow the colouring scheme of green poles and stanchions with off-white/beige mesh panels for surface stations. Instead, Gateway has grey poles and stanchions with off-white/beige mesh panels.

Lastly, Gateway is the only station in the system with platform safety signs denoting the BC Transit Act instead of the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority Act. The signs are one of the few remaining BC Transit signage in the SkyTrain system not to be replaced or altered.
