Granville is a SkyTrain station in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Station Details

Located directly under Dunsmuir and Granville streets, the station provides easy access to nearby downtown office buildings as well as shopping centres and the Granville Entertainment District. Granville Station is the deepest station on the system and has the longest escalators in the system measuring at 35 metres, as well as being built entirely underneath The Hudson's Bay building. Granville Station is the only station on the system to not have its own street level station house as all of its entrances are located within buildings or underground. Although noted as a transfer station with Vancouver City Centre, the two stations are not linked underground.

Up until 2006, Granville Station was the only non-accessible station in the system. On September 22, 2006, the Dunsmuir Street entrance located inside the Hudson on Granville development opened, expanding the station with an addition of new corridors, concourses, escalators and elevators. The Dunsmuir Street entrance is linked by an underground passage with the Seymour and Granville Street entrances. Design for the station expansion was by VIA Architecture.

Of the three street level entrances, the Granville Street entrance is used the most frequently.

During the 2011 Stanley Cup Riot, fires were set outside the Seymour Street entrance with very minimal damage done as the entrance was closed when the riot moved into the area.

The station platforms are stacked on top of each other (Waterfront over King George/Production Way–University) due to the diameter and design of the Dunsmuir Tunnel, which opened in 1933 and renovated and altered for SkyTrain between 1983 and 1985.

In 2018 from the end of service on March 29 to the start of service on April 3, the Dunsmuir entrance was closed to install two additional fare gates to meet growing ridership and usage. This was the first and only fare gate expansion work to be done in the system.

On May 8, 2018, TransLink announced the Granville Station Escalator Replacement Project as part of the TransLink Maintenance and Repair Program. Starting May 26, the replacement of six escalators began, resulting in the closure of the Seymour Street entrance and closure of the Granville/Seymour concourse. Work was expected to take two years.[1] On July 17, 2020, work was completed and the entrances and corridors that were closed as part of the project reopened.[2]

Bus Routes

Granville Station's bus connections are located along Granville Street and W. Georgia Street. NightBus services link with Granville Station as it serves as the downtown terminus. On June 25, 2018, W. Georgia Street & Granville Street, adjacent to Vancouver City Centre Station, was designated as the NightBus District, a pilot project involving the introduction of a new and well-lit area for waiting for the NightBus.

Bays 1 and 3 are located at W. Pender Street & Howe Street and are for layover for most NightBus routes serving the area.

Local services on Granville Street are on Seymour and Howe streets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays/Holidays after 9:00PM. Northbound services board on Seymour Street. Southbound services board on Howe Street.
