SkyTrain 301–348 are 48 Bombardier ART Mark II cars built in Sahagún, Mexico between 2008 and 2009.

Features

Interior layout of Mark II 1300/1400 series cars.

These trains were the first in the fleet to be delivered in the new and current charcoal TransLink livery. The seats and seating arrangement is different from the previous Mark II trains with a 2+1 seating arrangement, which allows for more aisle space. These trains were also the first to receive various other new features such as CCTV cameras, LED maps, interior door indicator lights, and an LED destination sign. Grab bars run along the ceiling and also perpendicular to the vertical grab bars, allowing for more places for standees to hold on to. The articulated joints are also larger and close the gap between cars to make sure people don't fall in between cars while on the platform, which has been a concern since the previous Mark II trains entered service. However, most of the previous Mark II trains have had their articulated joints replaced to the same model used by these trains.

History

The order for these cars was placed in November 2006, when Bombardier won the $113-million contract to supply 34 SkyTrain cars, with an option for an additional 38 cars.[1] The first trains began arriving in January 2009 and were expected to be in service by March[2] but was delayed to July 3rd[3] The remaining 14 cars were delivered in 2010.[4]

Three units from this order were part of the initial SkyTrain cars to be fitted with WiFi as part of the TransLink WiFi program in October 2021.

On the evening of May 30, 2022, car 317 while paired with cars 313–314 derailed west of Scott Road Station at the switch into the Scott Road pocket track. This resulted in car 317 to be partially dislodged from the tracks and one of the train's power collector shoe being ripped off. Other damage included some concrete on the guideway being broken off by the train. Service was disrupted for approximately 24 hours while crews worked to conduct any necessary track repairs and inspections and to lift car 317 back onto the tracks.

Formation

Currently, these cars run on the Expo Line in 4 car sets. However, these cars may appear on the Millennium Line from time to time in 2 car formations or in 4 car formations during snowfall.
