Vancouver City Centre is a SkyTrain station in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Station Details

Located directly under Granville Street between W. Georgia and Robson streets, the station provides easy access to nearby downtown office buildings as well as shopping centres and the Granville Entertainment District. Although noted as a transfer station with Granville, the two stations are not directly linked underground.

The three entrances connect at the same concourse located below Granville Street. One street-level entrance connects from Granville and W. Georgia while the other two are underground, connecting Vancouver Centre and Pacific Centre.

History

During planning, Vancouver City Centre was called Robson[1] and was sometimes referenced as Robson/Granville. This was later changed in 2006 to its current name.[2]

30,000 cubic metres of soil had to be removed as part of the excavation work. Vancouver City Centre was the only Canada Line station in downtown that required blasting work to break up ground material. Excavation work was completed in 11 months. To maintain pedestrian access along Granville Street, 50 metre-long cantilever sidewalks were installed and suspended above the station.[3]

As part of the Canada Line Escalator Enhancement Project, an additional escalator is being added between the platform and the concourse levels to address growing ridership and station congestion. Construction work began in late February 2019 and was completed in late 2019.

YVR Check-In

Vancouver City Centre Station had self-serve check-in kiosks on the concourse level for Vancouver International Airport flights. As of 2020, these have since been removed.

Bus Routes

Vancouver City Centre Station's bus connections are located along Granville Street and W. Georgia Street. NightBus services link with Vancouver City Centre Station as it serves as the downtown terminus. On June 25, 2018, W. Georgia Street & Granville Street was designated as the NightBus District, a pilot project involving the introduction of a new and well-lit area for waiting for the NightBus.

Bays 1 and 3 are located at W. Pender Street & Howe Street and are used for layover for most NightBus routes serving the area.

Local services on Granville Street are on Seymour and Howe streets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays/Holidays after 9:00 p.m. Northbound services board on Seymour Street. Southbound services board on Howe Street.
