SkyTrain 401–484 are Bombardier Innovia Metro 300 or ART Mark III 1500/1600-series cars built in 2015 and 2018–2019. For a short period, the cars in the first order were also used on the Millennium Line up until the operational pattern change in 2016. Since then, these cars only run on the Expo Line.

In 2012, Bombardier was selected to build the cars at a cost of $90.7 million.[1] The cars were to be used on the Evergreen Extension, in addition to being used on both the Expo and Millennium lines. In 2016, 56 additional cars were ordered and scheduled to arrive in 2019. 28 of the 56 were scheduled to arrive in 2022, but their delivery dates were accelerated due to additional funding.[2]

The first cars of the initial order began to arrive in early May 2016 and were assembled at OMC2. The first cars of the second order arrived on September 12, 2018.

The first set was introduced into public service on August 18th, 2016 after a brief public unveiling and showcase earlier that morning at Waterfront Station.

Features

These were the first cars in the fleet to be semi-permanently paired in 4-car sets and connected with an articulated joint, allowing passenger access between all cars. Similar interior design elements were adapted from the Mark II cars from 2009, such as reduced seats, LED maps, door-closing lights, and CCTV cameras. However, these are the first cars in the fleet (excluding the Canada Line EMU units) to not have a seat in the front cab area.

Other than the absence of a seat in the cab area and all cars being connected with articulated joints, these cars are distinguishable by their large front windows and large passenger windows, as well as a multipurpose area for wheelchairs, strollers, and bikes in the leading cars.

These cars are semi-permanently connected in 4-car sets and currently run exclusively on the Expo Line. However, these cars may occasionally show up on the Millennium Line during special circumstances such as for track work shuttle service. When the cars from the initial order were first delivered, they ran on both the Expo and Millennium lines.

Leading cars are bolded.
