Niagara Falls Transit

i was up in the Falls today, went by the garage and noticed 8835 on the far side of the yard, i am assuming it has been retired

I confirmed with a mechanic yesterday and he said 8835 was having work done to it. Rest assured, it is not retired

Well I am not sure if I should post a new thread when there already is one...but I stopped by here on my way back to Philly from Toronto.

It was a fun trip, and one of the drivers was nice...he let me in while on layover, and he knows a bunch of transit fans from ontario who have taken pictures before. (8120 is in the USA side)

i looked at the wiki for the NFT retired roster; it says 8373 would be retired in 2011 even though it has been retired since last december and most likely scrapped.........i am confused here now

Sometimes systems will put the expected retirement dates on rosters which then get into the hands of transit enthusiasts. These lists can be very interesting as it gives a rough guideline to the expectations of the system. However they are often not correct, a bus maybe retired to to a defect etc, also a bus could stay longer if a bus expected to be retired later was retired earlier than expected.

yeah, i guess it had some problems, last time i rode that unit when it used to be SCT 8381, the back door wouldnt even open.

8372 is still active (i think?) as i got it back in October on the 3 westlane and still runs good

Which units will retire?

I believe these are expansion buses for the regional service that will be starting. Niagara Transit is getting 5 buses=3 for regional, 2 for regular service as lap_screw mentioned. These other 2 may replace 8372 and 8835, but thats speculation at this point.

For years, many small to midsize transit agencies either did not have a publicly available map showing all routes, and even when they did these were often hard to find on their websites. Most agencies have fixed this, but the NF site still makes it tricky to find the system map -- unless you decide to click on what appear to be specific route maps. If transit sites were designed from a more common rider-friendly template, the system map would always appear as a link above all individual route maps.

On other counts the NF Transit site is not awful for a small agency, but it is not geared to visitors (and appears to ignore the PeopleMover which is actually an anti-visitor omission). It's an obvious example of a lowered priority -- or minimal customer service resources/budget.

i have been informed that 2062 (Orion V) is currently in Dunnville being refurbished and will most likely recieve the current Niagara Falls Transit livery

I can't remember, I know this one has no a/c. Lets hopefully they retrofit this one.

62 arrived back to the yard today from Dunnville, it was painted all white so yes it will almost certainly be the first Orion 5 to recieve the new livery. Also 2577 was sent out to Dunville, so 77 will likely be the 2nd Orion 7 to recieve the new livery.
