  1. Southland was expanding like crazy around that time, they seemed to be going after every contract that came up. I even heard a rumor that they were going to try to get Calgary Transit, that would have been hilarious in my opinion.
  2. Turns out I drove this bus before it was converted, even took a photo of it as I was waiting at Brentwood. Jan 9, 2012.

    Kingston Transit

Yes, which is why it is all over the place! Before that they tried to incorporate transit into a main fleet numbering scheme. However they quickly dropped that idea but not before a street sweeper became 18, which is why there was a gap between 0317 and 0519.

Has Kingston Transit stopped with the ad hoc numbering system? Was in Kingston on Thursday and saw numbers all over the place on the buses I noticed.

I returned to South Eastern Ontario from Alberta back in late 2019, but very rarely go into Kingston.
  6. What argument? I thought this was a discussion board not an argument board. All I did was add to the discussion. Its stupid asinine posts like this that make me stay away from this board.
  7. I have never been to Quebec City by train, so can't speak to that station, but with Windsor, Toronto, and Montreal I had to line up. The only times I did not was when I was with my mother, who was in a wheelchair so we were taken directly to the train, and when I was doing photography for VIA and already in the restricted areas at Toronto and Ottawa so I could jump on my train without having to line up. Asked my father about the UK stations and he said that St.Pancras used to be gated, but they were removed, while Paddington and Kings Cross were only partially gated so it was easy to circumnavigate the gates!
  8. While I can remember lining up and waiting for a train at London Euston I can also remember terminal stations with no gates in the 1970's / 1980's / 1990's. I think some of these had gates that were left open, like the old London St.Pancras, while other stations I don't remember gates, for example Manchester Piccadilly, although I could be wrong, but I never remember having to wait and being free to walk around and photograph.
  9. I haven't heard anything about the Sprinters being replaced, at least not yet, but I am not surprised as the oldest class 150s are approaching forty years old, which is older than most of the first gen DMUs they replaced. Well that is except for when they have been cascaded from one TOC to another, but there is nothing odd with that. Considering that the contemporary electric version class 317 is currently being withdrawn then perhaps they are on there last legs. There is a persistent rumour going around that the Isle of Wight lines will be expanded and this may require more class 484s but aside from that I haven't heard anything more about the 230s, probably why they sent the unit to the USA.
  10. The units that have been ordered, and entered service are as follows. 230001 - Diesel Electric (prototype), this was the one that caught fire and I don't think is in use anymore. 230002 - Battery (prototype), now in the USA. 230003-5 - Diesel Electric, in use on the Bedford - Bletchley line. 230006-10 - Diesel Battery, for Transport for Wales, not sure if they are in use yet due to reductions in service due to Covid. 484001-5 - straight electric 3rd rail, for use on the Isle of Wight but not in service yet. There have been huge issues getting this project off the ground, partly as you said the TOC's want newer units, but certainly the battery option seems to have flunked, despite the fact it was the DEMU version that caught fire. I honestly don't see this going further as the TOC's don't seem interested in old equipment. They will even replace new equipment if a predecessor TOC ordered it, for example class 707 introduced in 2017 by South West Trains but are already being replaced by its successor South Western Trains, so what chance does the old D stock have?
  11. I am not sure if that was considered but I do know that they looked at converting them into cab cars but nothing came out of it.
  12. They tried this in the UK, with the same train, and the project seems to have failed. The operators were offered the battery electric, diesel electric, and diesel battery units with only the battery electric (this unit) not generating any orders. Maybe the fact that the oldest units are forty-three years old or that the first unit rebuilt by Vivarail caught fire during a demonstration run might be turning the UK operators off these units, hence this demonstration.
  13. So is 7777 still on property? When I was a spare boarder this was considered a cursed bus as whoever had it seem to have issues, and I don't mean breakdowns, just something would happen. I finally got it not long before leaving transit and I have to admit I was not happy. Towards the end I thought I was going to escape but then the director of CT got on. Boy talk about stress level going up! By the way wasn't this one of the ones that was supposed to have been a D40i but the order was changed to D40LF?
  14. Only once can I remember driving a big bus on a shuttle run. I was sent to Dalhousie to cover an outbound 77 and when I got to the end of the route the shuttle was waiting for me. I hopped out and spoke to the driver, whom I knew, and he told me that when he had reported to VP they had no shuttles for him. He had to wait while diesel prepped one for him.
  15. Sorry for the late reply. I can remember quite a few of these around the system and as already been mentioned they had them along Crowchild. Since I use to drive late night runs, especially the route 20, they were great as when you saw the flash you knew someone wanted your bus. Still it paid to slow down as you approached those as some people never pressed them and still wanted your bus.
  16. I don't remember doing those areas on a school run, although it is possible. I am trying to find the old running boards that used to show up on self-serve (for some crazy reason I saved them all), I have them somewhere but so far can only find the 2013's. I also have a photo of 7001 on what I think is a school run but there is nothing on the signs so again will need to look for the running boards.
  17. Found this photo of 7609 sitting outside Anderson Garage on May 10, 2012 at 0757. I no longer remember where route 861 went but it seems that the sign was not working so only the number was displayed.
  18. Saw it late last year being pulled a GE as it passed through Kingston, got some photos of it at Joyceville. Knew it was coming as the scanner said ten axles, one engine and the car. Remember it had an odd number (odd as in not even) even though it was an eastbound. I don't know if there was anything to help the loco and car couple but I did not check. Tried to tell a few people about it as no one seemed to know, just a few messages that it was coming, but no one seemed to care so,..
  19. September 5, train 519 derailed as it was taking the siding at Ernestown with one car coming to rest fouling the main line. Train 48, with a P42 leading, which was running 20 minutes behind had an allision with the derailed car that damaged the entire right side of train 48. Passengers transferred to train 650, which was running behind 48. Train 650, which normally terminates at Kingston carried on to Ottawa that night. Was listening to it on the scanner. It was train 692 to Winnipeg

    Hey Guys

Just to let you know that due to recent events in my life I have lost all interest in the whole transit scene and I will no longer be posting here. I wish you all the best and take care guys.
  21. Oh that was the one on Barlow where the passenger had been sitting in the rear corner when the truck hit.
  22. $omething that a LRT driver might be able to afford???$$$
  23. That looks like a GTA game!
  24. You're not going to offer it a good home? Only $2,200, plus transportation costs, registration, insurance. Then you need to find somewhere to store it.
