OC TRANSPO'S HISTORICAL FLEET

Here is an actual  list of OC Transpo's Historical Fleet they had at one time. Between then and now some have been disposed of, some not on list have been disposed of and one has been added. Later on today I'll be adding Bus info I mentioned in the MISC thread.

Note not on list:

8222 GM Articulated bus(first artics OC received)still in fleet but in poor condition (non operating)

83?? Orion I no longer in fleet(was originally OC, then transferred to Para Transpo, later transferred back to OC historical fleet

8704(I think that was the number) Flyer ??? No longer in the fleet.

8501 Orion III no longer part of fleet

8529 intended use for spare parts for 8501

41?? Orion VI added to Historical fleet(not known if still at Pinecrest does not show up on Garage placement sheets as does the other Historical Fleet showing at Pinecrest?)

Is any of the historic fleet still drivable? 6101?

I don't know whether 8222 or the Orion VI buses came first, but I got pics of both in June 1999:

One of them was 7737:

Thanks! Anything still silveside in the early 2000s probably only had the circa 1993-1995 rebuild when the 74xx and younger GM fleet was given power steering. By '93, there was only 1 72xx (7284) and 4 or 5 73xx buses left and they were all gone probably by the end of '93 or early '94 at the latest.

I think the only one that I'm aware of is the Orion VI(drive), but not sure of the others. I'm not an expert in this field but I think any of the buses that can drive I believe need some type of safety sticker from the MTO, but I could be wrong, like I said I'm not to knowledgeable in this area?

I believe 8222 was first. According to someone on Twitter, (https://mobile.twitter.com/oc_transpo/status/669894701986807808?lang=en), @JCL rode 8222 in 1998 (the CPTDB wiki also says it was acquired in 1998 and then rebuilt shortly afterwards, looked at the Trainweb website and they also say 1998). As far as I know, the first Orion VI didn't come until spring 1999 or so.

I wonder if this means the Maple Leaf livery was actually introduced in 1998 instead of 1999 like I previously thought.

Ah, but according to the wiki, 4001 was a 1998 bus (the VIN ended with W6040346).  This was just a few buses after Belleville's order for Orion VI buses, which was delivered in December 1998.

There is also a photo on barp.ca of HSR 8202 at an OC Transpo garage in August 1998, still painted in the HSR bumblebee paint scheme.  OC also received HSR 8208 and 8215, but both of those buses were in the more recent livery wheen they were retired.

How's these for a oldies:

Does anyone remember these:

As I remember hearing, one of the 5105s - it may have been 5931, but I'm not positive - was to be sold to Camp Fortune, who reneged on the deal. The bus was returned to OC Transpo and repainted in the then-new colors. If it was 5931, it was later restored to original OTC colors.

I heard that OC Transpo were to sell two buses to Camp Fortune, and one of them was indeed 5931, which why it was repainted into the red-stripe livery.  I have no idea which bus the other one was.

In 12 days, it would have been 11 years ago that day the Quickie at Baseline Station would had to close to doors to make way for the relocation of Baseline Station.

I miss that store. It was great having it right there, could get pop or other junk food the good stuf as well as coffee or transit passes/tickets at the time. I hope the new LRT Baseline station has a convenient store and not just a coffee shop.

Todays #TBT is brought to you by This Instagram photo

Heres what I believe to be one of the new Alstom Lints being loaded in Germany for its journey to North America

Here's the caption for the photo:

Wir sehen hier einen #lint41 auf dem Weg nach Kanada.  Höchstwahrscheinlich ist auch dieses Fahrzeug für #octranspo bestimmt.
„OC Transpo ist der öffentliche Personennahverkehrsbetreiber der Landeshauptstadt von Kanada, Ottawa.“

We see a # lint41 here on the way to Canada.  Most likely, this vehicle is also intended for #octranspo.
"OC Transpo is the public transport operator of the state capital of Canada, Ottawa."

Zoom in, its C4.

The numbering on those trains drives me a little bit nuts. The old units (C1-C3) had illuminated number boards in the cab windows. The LINTs arrived as you see them there, with a small number behind the cab window in some sort of highway sign like font. I'm guessing they realized quickly that this had to be illuminated, so they printed the unit numbers on office paper and stuck them in the top corner of the first window of the passenger area so they were illuminated by the interior lights. This solution was short lived, and quickly replaced by white numbers in Frutiger on black vinyl stuck on the windows, still illuminated by the existing lights. Finally they installed lighted panels in the window on each side with the unit number just like the Talents had, but they didn't remove any of the other numbers. This means that each train has three separate unit numbers on it, all within a meter of each other, and all in different fonts.

I saw this interior photo of 5990, posted on the Lost Ottawa Facebook page:

Your Morning Commute ... on the famous 1a which got you from your Ottawa pad to Carleton University in 1970.

I assume it's morning because it seems so bright ... and there are so few students on the bus!

For me to get to Carleton it was 45 minutes on the 77 down Baseline. Ugh ...

I've been digging through old newspapers online about OC Transpo related pics and articles and figured this would be the best place to post some of the interesting finds. The photos aren't amazing quality considering they are scanned from newspapers but still some neat stuff here. Hopefully I am not re-posting anything that someone else has found somewhere in this 33 page thread.

8222 came first. It was suggested/created by a bus operator, tested on 8222 (so 8222 was the first to receive the new Maple Leaf Livery), then implemented on all new buses (which were the Orion VIs).
