Oak–VGH is a planned SkyTrain station in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Station Details

Oak–VGH Station is one of five planned stations along the Millennium Line's Broadway Subway extension. The station will be located at the southwest corner of W. Broadway & Laurel Street, providing direct access to Vancouver General Hospital and the rest of the medical district in Vancouver's Fairview neighbourhood.

While the station will only have one entrance on W. Broadway, provisions will be made for a second one on Laurel Street.

The design of Oak–VGH will include the use of a light grey cladding and green accent trim on the station building, with extensive use of glass and white canopy folds to match the white aluminum wall panels.[1]

The station is expected to open in 2025.

History

During the planning stage, the station was called Fairview–VGH[2] in July 2019 but was renamed to Oak–VGH in September 2020 when the station names were finalized.

Provisions were made at an office building at 988 W. Broadway at the southeast corner of W. Broadway & Oak Street for a station entrance in 2016.[3] But this was before the station design and location planning was finalized to its current location of W. Broadway & Laurel Street.

On August 27, 2021, work began on the station that involved the closure of Laurel Street at W. Broadway to emergency vehicles only. Work on relocation utilities took place in November 2021 and the construction of the traffic deck between Oak and Laurel streets on W. Broadway took place from December 2021 to February 2022.

Bus Routes

It is expected that bus routes currently passing through the station's proposed location will continue to service the area once the station is complete in 2025, including the 99 B-Line for a brief time as both the Broadway Subway and 99 B-Line are expected to temporarily co-exist until bus service adjustments and changes take place.
