The Gateway Express was a bus route jointly operated by the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation and the Detroit Department of Transportation (as route 97) in metropolitan Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Route Details
The route began at the first park & ride lot at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor and ran east on Eureka Road to Interstate 75 and took it north to the Outer Drive exit, where it pulled into the second park & ride lot at the Faith Christian Church in Melvindale. It then travelled west on Outer Drive and turned north on Allen Road into the last park & ride lot. From there, it operated via Allen Road, Oakwood Boulevard, Interstate 94 and newly-added high-occupancy lanes along Michigan Avenue into downtown Detroit.
History
The joint service was set up on February 25, 2008 and ran during the Gateway Project, a major reconstruction project that involved connecting the Ambassador Bridge to Interstates 75 and 96. Service ended in 2009.
