History

  • September 4, 2007 - Route introduced, replacing a large portion of route 185 along with parts of route 250.
  • December 12, 2011 - Due to systemwide service cuts, weekend service is eliminated.
  • April 6, 2015 - After SMART is permitted into the John D. Dingell Transit Center, route 250 replaces route 140 between the Transit Center and Fairlane Town Center. At the same time, direct service to the Henry Ford Museum is eliminated.
  • March 23, 2020 - Routing in Dearborn is changed to use Oakwood Boulevard between Beech Street and Michigan Avenue rather than Monroe Street. Half of this new routing had already been in use as a detour routing since 2017 due to the closure of parts of Monroe for building construction, and was also proposed as part of the SMART Path Plan.
  • April 12, 2021 - Proposed as part of the SMART Path Plan, route 140 is extended to the Southgate Meijer store, replacing route 160 along Eureka Road and providing new service along Fort Street
