raptorjays
Just wondering why the Queensway suddenly became a spot where all the oldest fleets are dumped? Like a retirement living home. Is it because of its close proximity to Obico Yard and North Queen where all the buses preparing for the retirement are being stored?

No. There have been plenty of other divisions that have had "senior" fleets over the years - Malvern with the 7000 Orion V series, and now with the majority of the Orion VII NG HEV units. Eglinton and Birchmount also had the oldest buses for a while (Orion VII units 7400-7883), most of which were directly replaced by the 8620-8964 Nova Bus LFS fleet in 2017. Until recently, Mount Dennis also had a very senior fleet, consisting of the Orion VII HEVs (2006) and VII NG HEV (mostly 2007s), with artics from 2013-14. TTC's fleet management practices over the past decade have been to largely concentrate bus series at one or two garages, which means there are large differences in fleet age between garages. Queensway received the 7900/8000 series VIIs between 2008 and 2016, so now it's their turn to be replaced. But as discussed elsewhere, the garage at Queensway is not well equipped to maintain buses with rooftop equipment, so instead of brand-new buses like Mount Dennis is getting, Queensway is receiving the 8100 series Orion VIIs from Wilson. This will tide the division over for another 2-3 years until those need to be replaced, at which point a decision will need to be made regarding the future of the garage.

If they do convert Queensway to a partial or fully wheel-trans garage, would they be able to use Lake Shore for regular buses? It will be a decade till they even get Kipling garage going. Queensway couldn't maintain the Orion hybrids because of the way they open up the battery modules. Someone on here mentioned this already and provided pics. The novas have rooftop components that Queensway handles pretty fine. They even have ladders to access the roof of buses. It's been mentioned that Queensway can indeed have hybrids , just not the Orion hybrids. I believe the biggest reasons why Queensway can't get new buses currently is because it's a smaller divsion, so getting new deliveries and retiring buses at the same time means you need more space than what Queensway currently has. That's why a lot of 79/8000 have been sent to other divisions for decommissioning. Also because other divisions need work, from what I've heard. A lot of new buses are still on warranty. 13 hours ago, Xtrazsteve said: If they do convert Queensway to a partial or fully wheel-trans garage, would they be able to use Lake Shore for regular buses? I believe the plan was for kipling to be a full on bus yard, then fully convert Queensway to wheel trans , and not have a mix fleet of conventional and wheel trans buses at Queensway. But that's 10 years away. There's already talk of manufacturers resisting the EV craze. So we'll see what TTC and the city has plans for. If there should be a new wheeltrans facility, it should be in the 427 and 401 area, to get a better coverage of the city. But that's just my 2cents. So if the hybrids can be equipped at Queensway but storage is limited then why can’t they have 50 or so deliveries from the new orders and the rest of the batch goes to another division? South Etobicoke routes deserve the new toys for once NOT handmedowns a lot of us are getting tired of being treated like a senior funeral home.

Because Queensway isn’t designed to accept or retire buses, so vehicles have to be delivered to somewhere else, and then transferred to Qsy. Additionally, there is no sense in transferring a new bus type to a division when they can send something mechanics and operators don’t need training on. As a more personal note, I ride Queensway buses daily, and prefer the older buses way more than any new stuff at MtD or Wilson.

Queensway got those 33xx's from Arrow and McNicoll (ex-Arrow). Those are pretty "new" to me. Queensway also at one point got their hands on some of those 84xx LFS's as well. So they don't always get the "oldest" fleet that the TTC has.

Ya they ended up getting them.. and my prediction was that Queensway will eventually get more NOVAs as they converted 3330-3341 to the Airport bus.. they had upto 70 novas (3300-3369) at one point and I am wondering why they decided to dump 8100-8219 to Queensway instead of bringing more of NOVAs.

Cause 8100-8219 need a home, and Wilson needs to make space for their incoming 7xxx's? So you are saying to retire them when they still have some useful life in them? Xtrazsteve
Either they need to build a new building to service them or service them off site. They build a new bay at Roncey to service the new staircases. Either way will cost a lot of money.

If anyone asks on that, they're being replaced with the incoming 310-electric bus order (124 LFSe+ and 186 XE40) resulting in the upcoming retirements of the 8100s and the 8300s alongside with the remaining NG HEVs. Ed T.
I saw a low 8200, perhaps 821x, northbound on Weston Road somewhere above the 401, either an 89 or 165. I thought all these had gone to Queensway? Was it back for a nostalgic throwback?
