They started the land line in my house now with the same number. Only a matter of time for them to call my parents. My father isn't kind to these people so he'll probably tell them to f-off once they start calling his cell. I learned a trick to block numbers on a land line by picking up, pressing pound then hanging up. This should solve the problem. If not, I'll pick up and tell them to stop bothering me and my family. So annoyed by that one number. They don't stop.

Yeah, that's total harassment.

The Boston Bruins, with an NHL Record-setting 63 win season, have lost to the lower-seeded Florida Panthers in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

They lose 9 games this season at home in 82 games, and they lose 3 in this 7-game series alone.

Was told today that there were secret shoppers in our midst, checking to make sure we grovel and debase ourselves enough at the feet of the customer. As if any office dweller who hasn't had to rub shoulders with the public in 15 years could know anything about such things.

Funny, they always cry foul about there not being enough money in the budget for adequate staffing as befitting a civilized business, something that could materially benefit both employee and customer, but there's always money in the budget to terrorize the plebs.

The other day, I received a new debit card from Simplii Financial (used to be known as "President's Choice Financial" - powered by CIBC until Loblaws have decided to sortie the partnership with CIBC back in 2017) that has the Interac and Debit MasterCard logos - however the orientation of the debit card looks different.

Instead of doing in a landscape style, it changed to a portrait position. Not sure if "portrait facing" credit/debit cards - are becoming the norm....

Sometimes many wtf moments can happen with me hah But nowadays I am into my hobby.  Engaging in gambling spin-city.ca as a hobby can be a thrilling and entertaining experience. It offers a unique form of escapism and excitement, allowing individuals to challenge their skills, luck, and decision-making abilities. The wide variety of games available at casinos or online platforms provides endless options for exploration and enjoyment. Whether it's the strategic calculations of card games, the anticipation of spinning the roulette wheel, or the thrill of hitting a jackpot on a slot machine, gambling offers moments of exhilaration and adrenaline. However, it's crucial to approach gambling responsibly, setting limits and treating it as a form of entertainment rather than a means of financial gain. By maintaining control and enjoying the experience within one's means, gambling can be a fun and enjoyable hobby.

For those into anime and video games, 31-year-old Los Angeles-based voice actress Erica Lindbeck, who is known as Futuba Sakura in the popular hit vigilante game Persona 5, as well as Cheelai in Dragon Ball Super and Jericho in The Seven Deadly Sinsdeactivated her Twitter account after an AI voice of her was used in a YouTube video that was posted (original was removed then rapidly restored by a number of users). This incident has driven her off the Twitter platform and voices of any cartoon or anime characters, even in AI, cannot be used without the person’s consent.

Not sure where to post this but this is probably a WTF or FML moment.

Trying to get ahold of a human being on Amazon's customer support online that isn't a Robot or ChatGPT or whatever. I got someone else's package delivered instead of mine. My neighbors put my zip code instead of theirs. Not the first time where I got someone else's mail delivered to my address. For some reason our zip code shows up everywhere. I can't type what the current situation is only saying I didn't receive my package yet I received one. Only that it isn't mine. I ended up delivering their package as it was only four houses down from mine and left a note saying delivered to wrong address and change the zip code so it doesn't happen next time. Meanwhile, I don't know where my package is and I'll probably call them. I'm only at a loss for $15 but this frustrating.

Yesterday was the first day back at University. I go to a remote campus with no more than 250 students. The canteen was closed. Some of the freshmen wanted drinks. They broke into the fridge and stole drinks with broken glass everywhere. ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. In order to graduate and get a job in the field for our program, you cannot have a criminal recorded or any misconduct on your record. I swear, I'm so glad that I'm a second year and not just fresh out of high school or a first year. (I graduated high school 7 years ago.) The kids are getting more crazy than I went to high school years ago.

I don't blame you regarding how some kids or people are out of control. Especially in the age of social media and smartphones trying to get attention or feel that actions have no consequences. Thinking that nothing will happen.

Of course, it might bite them back later when they do get a job in their field and they have the black mark (criminal record or misconduct) or if they try to enter the US and get turned away due to having a criminal record.

If you folks happen to receive a new debit or credit card recently - chances are that the look (and feel) is different.

I remembered when many of the debit and credit cards still have the embossed characters printed on the card (something reminiscent to tactile) but many new ones these days don't have those "engraved" but rather printed directly onto the card.

Additionally, some have changed the orientation - from landscape to portrait.

The embossing goes back to the days of the first cards, so that they could be used with those manual imprinting machines. I think the embossing is a good idea in the event that digital goes down for whatever reason (like a power failure).

I remember how they would do that on Via-Rail and I think some airlines prior to having a point-of-sale terminal handheld which would store the data offline until it reconnects when it lands on the ground. Then doing the reconciliation between the charges and bill the cardholder accordingly.

Especially with the shift to digital payments today. Not needing to record the card info via carbon paper and the point of sales terminal capturing that info.

I think it would still make sense to have embossed cards, and for businesses to have an imprinter on hand in emergencies. It may mean more 'paper work' for someone down the road, but better safe than sorry.

I remember an even older style that had a handle on the front that one pushed down after loading the card and ticket. Like this one floating in the 'bay:

I remember those too.  I remember going out for a dinner and you'd place your credit card on a small tray (it usually had the Chargex or MasterCharge logos on it) The Waitperson would take this and then return with your card and your 'copy' of the transaction.

Some places still use that method,Outback for one. I dislike having my card out my control, even for a short time.

Agreed, I have stickers on my card, so that if it is out of my control, and comes back sans stickers or stickers placed differently then I will know.

However, back in the early days of credit cards, I don't think fraudulent activity was nearly as rampant as it is nowadays.

Lately, I've been receiving a lot of "fake emails" claiming that "my account has been reported" or "my device has been infected". To make matters worse, hackers/scammers also modify (or even disguise) an e-mail address claiming to be an actual company!

Just now, I happened to receive an e-mail for that same reason. To make matters worse, it came from (wait for it) an art gallery based in Hamilton, ON, Canada (by looking at the domain suffix). Lucky for me (and as a tech-savvy person), I immediately recognize this as a "phishing attempt".

My takeaway advice: be cognizant (aware) on who sends you the e-mail or be on a lookout for any suspecious attempts.

Today I got an email claiming "3 repositories in your GitHub account might be affected by a security vulnerability found in [repository that I forked/cloned]". I wonder if that's also a phishing attempt.

THe other day, one of my local community newspapers - had stopped delivering to my house. Until recently, it used to feature some store flyers and other stuff.  I found that my local newspaper - had ceased print publication.

Metroland Media declared bankruptcy protection a few weeks ago and also ceased printed copies along with flyer distribution. Especially since Bill C-18: Online News Act was to make Meta and Google pay for news articles hosted on their website, but instead eliminated most of the online traffic to the online news websites. Since Meta and Google are not willing to pay into a special fund to help local news survive.

At the same time, I personally don't have any use for paper flyers anymore. Which is now distributed via regular mail which still ends up in the recycling bin. The flyers, I simply access them digitally versus using print.

I get there are some avenues where news and info can be distributed especially in the age of social media and digital communications, but sometimes not everything is accurate. Since info can constantly change or no longer be up to date anymore.
