Your wishlist of route changes, try to keep it realistic (The sequel)

Due to restrictions, I have decided to create the sequel to the original thread:

As @Goldeneye introduced this thread, here are the changes that I wanted to make it happen after the Line 2 extension to Sheppard opens.

16 McCOWAN:
- Route reorganized. Route now runs from Lawrence East Station to Steeles with stops at Scarborough Centre and Sheppard East Stations. Service south of Lawrence is provided by the 113 DANFORTH and north of Steeles provided by YRT's 129 McCOWAN route. The St. Clair portion will continue to be provided by routes 9 BELLAMY and 102 MARKHAM ROAD.

113 DANFORTH:
- Original branch 113 from Main Street Station to Kennedy Station redesignated as 113A via Kennedy. A new 113 branch, known as 113B will be extended north of Kennedy to Lawrence East Station, replacing the portion of route 16 McCOWAN from Kennedy to Lawrence via Danforth Rd.

129 McCOWAN NORTH:
- Route discontinued. Service on 129B is replaced by the extended 16 McCOWAN from Scarborough Centre Station to Steeles and the 129A branch is replaced by route 129 McCOWAN operated by YRT* running from Sheppard East Station to Major Mackenzie.

* - Subject to approval by the Provincial Government upon implementation of the Cross-Boundary Service Integration.

Sound off your changes below.

For me, I would like to see the 952 Lawrence West Express operate all day instead of peak periods. Providing an alternative option to Line 1 instead of the current 52 Lawrence West having to go through all local stops. Plus provide a faster connection to Line 1.

This would be beneficial for airport connections across the northern end of the city too, at least until the Line 5 extension is completed (eventually...)

Personally, I would like to see faster bus service to the Marine Parade Drive area, as traffic congestion is notoriously bad and good public transport other than along the lakeshore would help to clear this up some. I would probably have both branches of route 66 be truncated at Humber Loop, and have route 77 combined with the Marine Parade Drive portion of route 66. I think that this would make for a less circuitous route.

Although a good idea, they'll either have to discontinue the 52F or run the 52G as express east of Scarlett to Lawrence Stn. I always find ridership west of Kipling/Dixon low as not that many people are actually using it to get to the airport.

The fare-integration promised by Queen's Park by the end of 2023 could make paying the premium fare on GO more attractive since it will include a free transfer to the TTC at Yorkdale, Sheppard-Yonge or Scarborough Centre.  If that's also part of the cross-boundary service integration, then you could see something like MiWay taking over the TTC's 37A ISLINGTON with its 30 REXDALE along with the other takeovers in central Etobicoke.  The 952 LAWRENCE WEST EXPRESS would be relegated to traffic between Pearson and Line 1 not travelling end-to-end, or for those who do not want to pay the premium GO fare (which is roughly double the TTC fare).  Going to a fare model where ALL transit within Toronto (and possibly including Pearson per the TTC's own fare rules) would be a game changer that would potentially alter the way people travel, but that's a discussion for another thread!

Other changes that worth be suggesting:

- The 84D SHEPPARD WEST is split off as its own route and becomes route 136 OAKDALE-NORFINCH running from Sheppard West Station to Pioneer Village Station.
- The 108 DRIFTWOOD is split into two routes: 108B becomes just 108 while the 108A becomes route 139 GRANDRAVINE except it runs directly via west on Grandravine, north on Jane, west on York Gate, west and north on Hullmar, north on Peter Kaiser, east on Steeles to Pioneer Village Station while the eastbound buses run via west on Steeles south on Jane, west, south and east on Hullmar continuing via reverse routing. This service will introduce full time bus service on Hullmar on midday, evenings, weekends and holidays.

I have one:

What about 16 McCowan STC to Main Street Station via Gerrard Street East, eliminating the 135 Gerrard which uses up to 2 or 3 buses yet has low ridership. Much simpler than having a 135 Gerrard and 69 Warden South, which literally go the same direction for at least half of the routes

Similar to how it was roughly a decade ago

The 52 is a shoppers route with quite a few major plazas along the route. A lot of the midblock stops between the major streets/express stops are busy during off peak times. Also, a lot of the ridership from the airport (airport workers, flight attendants, pilots, etc.) get off at those midblock stops, especially along Dixon Rd between Martin Grove and Islington. I believe airlines rent units in those apartments along Dixon Rd for their employees to use on their layovers. Knowing how the TTC plans service, having 952 operate during off peak times will for sure negatively impact the frequency of the local 52A service to those midblock stops. Very few actual travelers use 52A/952.

Can i include route changes for routes not yet in service?

158 TRETHEWEY

- Original branch from Keelesdale Station to Weston and 401 redesignated 158A. A new rush hour only branch, known as 158B will travel from Keelesdale Station to Jane and Finch Station on line 6 via Jane, looping via Yorkgate Blvd.

935 JANE EXPRESS

- Original branch from Jane Station to Pioneer Village Station redesignated as 935A. A new rush hour only branch, known as 935B will travel from Mount Dennis Station to Pioneer Village Station.

89 WESTON and 118 THISTLE DOWN

- Service is merged with the 165 Weston Rd North. All buses travel from Keele Station to Steeles Avenue. Service on 118 THISTLE DOWN is increased to match headways of the old 165 Weston Rd North and is extended to York Mills Station.

At that rate, I think I would merge routes 118 and 119 back into 96.

Reviving the 2A: I’d propose to include the resurrection of the former 2A ANGLESEY as route 48B RATHBURN. Buses run via Mill Road and Rathburn to Sherway Gardens via Mill Road, Bloor Street, Neilson, Richshaw, Neilson and the West Mall, returning from Sherway Gardens by the reverse route. This runs when route 123F SHERWAY isn’t operating, but a 48C runs the same route except it goes east via Dundas to Kipling Station during rush hours. They brought it back for a short time until 1998.

Original 48 branch becomes 48A.

Not so much the route itself as the name: 95 renamed YORK MILLES - ELLESMERE, since at least ⅔ of the route length is actually on Ellesmere anyway.

This but for the 72 PAPE becoming the 72 PAPE-CARLAW and the 42 CUMMER becoming the 42 CUMMER-MCNICOLL

The 72B would be Pape-Carlaw-Commissioners-Queens Quay in this case.

Is probably better off renaming it 72 Carlaw as it’s the main road it serves. The 25/81 services a large portion of Pape ave too.

The 42 is most busy around Cummer so it might not need a rename.

Two scenarios on how to fix the 10 VAN HORNE:

- Option A: Have the route interline with the 167B PHARMACY NORTH to and operate together with three buses.
- Option B: Reinstate off peak service on this route and interline with the 85J SHEPPARD EAST, recreating the original 10 routing up to 2002. Buses on the 169B via Victoria Park and Sheppard run at all times (except to 10pm weekends)

Given there is no goddamn service on Pharmacy north of Sheppard, the TTC seriously needs to bring back the 67B to Steeles (until 2002), as the 67C PHARMACY which should operate on Saturday evenings after 10pm and all day Sundays when the 167 isn’t running. Buses run from Victoria Park Station via Denton, Pharmacy, Ellesmere, Victoria Park, Sheppard, Pharmacy all the way to Steeles. (Terraview, Victoria Park, Farmcrest/Meadowacres routing is optional). I wonder that could be proposed in the 2024 ASP or whatever.

Here are my wishlists for future TTC route revisions and division reallocations:

-11 Bayview, 28 Bayview South, 74 Mount Pleasant, and 103 Mount Pleasant North are transferred to Wilson Garage.

-17 Birchmount is transferred to Birchmount garage.

-19 Bay is transferred to Mount Dennis garage.

-Make 20 Cliffside's temporary western terminus at Victoria Park station permanent.

-21 Brimley swaps divisions with 129 McCowan North upon closure of Line 3 Scarborough.

-24/924 Victoria Park is transferred to Eglinton Garage.

-25 Don Mills is split with south of Don Mills retaining route number and name, while north of Don Mills becomes 225 Don Mills North. 925 express remains unchanged.

-Wilson garage shares some runs with 29/929 Dufferin during rush hours and special events.

-32 Eglinton West is extended to Pearson Airport until the Eglinton West LRT extension opens.

-33 Forest Hill is extended to Marlee avenue via Elm Ridge drive, then loop back via Marlee, Ridelle and Newgate.

-Upon opening of Line 5, the newly adjusted 34 Eglinton should be shared with both Eglinton and Mount Dennis garages.

-45/945 Kipling swaps divisions with 71 Runnymede upon opening of Line 5 Eglinton.

-Upon split of 51 Leslie (with south of Sheppard retaining 51 and north of Sheppard becoming 151), 51 is transferred to Eglinton while 151 is at McNicoll.

-57 Midland should have a 10 minute or better frequency when Line 3 closes.

-60/960 Steeles West is transferred to Arrow Garage.

-68/968 Warden is transferred to Eglinton Garage.

-70 O'Connor is transferred to Eglinton garage upon the inauguration of 114 St Clair East, which will be at Birchmount

-82 Rosedale is transferred to Wilson garage.

-86 Scarborough is transferred to Eglinton Garage.

-89/989 Weston is transferred to Mount Dennis garage upon opening of Line 5 Eglinton.

-127 Davenport is transferred to Mount Dennis garage.

-A new route, 172 Banbury runs from Leslie station to The Donway via Banbury road.

-A new route, 173 West Rouge, runs clockwise from Rouge Hill GO station via Port Union Road, Island Road, Rouge Hills Drive and Lawrence Avenue East.

-There should be a 389 Weston Blue Night route foreshadowing the daytime route 89.

-Transfer 905 Eglinton East Express to Birchmount garage.

-There should be a 907 Bathurst Express running daily. In this case, 7 Bathurst is shortened to Wilson station while 160 Bathurst North gets increased service.

-Restore evening service on 935 Jane Express.

-Restore midday service on 941 Keele Express.

Another idea to make interlines the norm for routes with lower ridership that is shorter or whatever.

- 92 WOODBINE SOUTH and 93 PARKVIEW HILLS (all times, excluding peak periods)
- 97A YONGE and 122 GRAYDON HALL (late evenings and all day Sundays)
- 44 KIPLING SOUTH and 46 MARTIN GROVE (late evenings on weekends)
- 9 BELLAMY and 131 NUGGET (late evenings and all day Sundays)
- 19 BAY and 65 PARLIAMENT (weekend evenings)
- 61 AVENUE ROAD NORTH and 103 MOUNT PLEASANT NORTH (all times)

In the Blue Night side, the TTC would also reintroduce the old 315 LANSDOWNE NIGHT under the extended routing using the current 47A, running via St. Clair west to Weston following the 89/989 routing to Steeles as the 389 WESTON-LANSDOWNE BLUE NIGHT service.

- 70C + 102B = 302 MARKHAM RD-O'CONNOR BLUE NIGHT (302 will be forced to use the 326 KINGSTON RD-McCOWAN BLUE NIGHT number (derived from the 12 and 16 numbers)
- 386 SCARBOROUGH BLUE NIGHT follows the 86C routing.
- 385 SHEPPARD EAST BLUE NIGHT extended to Rouge Hill GO Station
- 311 BAYVIEW BLUE NIGHT follows the 11A routing
- 83 + 56A + 51 = 351 LESLIE BLUE NIGHT
- 325 DON MILLS BLUE NIGHT cut back to Pape Station. A new 372 PAPE BLUE NIGHT follows the current 72B routing.
- A brand new 305 DUNDAS BLUE NIGHT streetcar would finally bring 24 hour streetcar service to Dundas.
- 46 + 44 = 345 KIPLING-MARTIN GROVE BLUE NIGHT except the route goes via Kipling, Westway and Martin Grove.
- A new 360 STEELES WEST BLUE NIGHT will follow the 60B routing but will run via York University. 353 STEELES BLUE NIGHT cut back to Yonge and reverted to its original name of the 353 STEELES EAST BLUE NIGHT.

Transfer route 169 HUNTINGWOOD to McNicoll as well. Malvern gains route 9 BELLAMY and 16 McCOWAN.

@CJ. Don’t forget the 116 MORNINGSIDE and the 905 EGLINTON EAST EXPRESS to Eglinton Garage (they must have Artic hoists installed for the 905) in addition to the 86 SCARBOROUGH and 986 SCARBOROUGH EXPRESS. If the 28 moves, the 14 GLENCAIRN is going with it. Don’t forget the 45/945 swap with Queensway for the 30/189, 71/77, 127 post Line 5. 47 LANSDOWNE may be transferred to Mount Dennis as service on Caledonia is replaced by the restored 18 CALEDONIA, operating out of Wilson.

Oh to add here, once construction outside Broadview Station is complete and streetcars return to the station, including 100 Flemingdon Park, have 8 Broadview extend to Coxwell station as mentioned in the 2022 ASP. Also at the same time with routes 8 and 62 ending their interlining, route 70C O'Connor becomes 114 St Clair East as mentioned in the 2023 ASP. Route 70 is moved to Eglinton division while 114 is operated out of Birchmount division. After six months, route 69 is discontinued with the new 117 Birchmount South taking over the 69B, and route 135 retained but renamed to 135 Gerrard-Warden South.
