Those may have been contracted-out services as some Greyhound buses were used for ferrying too.

For anybody curious, here's A83, taken at the York Region Public Works Open House.

I think I saw that one headed along Finch a few weeks ago...it had just one small side window on the driver's side, so I think it was the 35 footer.

Didn't Toronto Ambulance have one or 2 orion II's a while back?

They had at least one that I knew of, plus Orion I's in all three sizes... including a 40' Mobile Communications Centre.

Toronto Police also had previous GMs, a PD4104 and a TDH5303.

I will post some photos once I get back to my home PC.

I don't know how you manage to do it Marshall, but you seem to always be in the right spot at the right time!

Dan

Call it a mis-spent youth chasing buses rather than attending classes. I only wish I had the time to do more now...

Thank you for the information and the marvelous photos. Was the police TDH-5303 ex-TTC as well?

No problem.

Unfortunately, I don't have any concrete info on the previous identities of either AUX02 or the original ESU5. However, given it's configuration, it is fairly safe to say that AUX02 is ex-TTC.

Regarding the Toronto Ambulance buses... I dug up some fact sheets on the Orions, and can confirm the following:

MPU1, 2 & 3 - Orion I 30'

MPU4 - Orion II 25'

ESU5 - Orion I 40'

ESU6 - Orion I 35'

COMM1 - Orion I 40'

Toronto EMS used to provide these very interesting fact sheets on their website, however since a recent overhaul I have not been able to locate the links, and suspect they are no longer available.

I have attached them here for those interested.

Not quite... AUX2 was 7930. AUX2 was an earlier bus.

After digging through some old notes, I have recorded that the original ESU5 (TDH4517) was ex-TTC 2996. I suspect my source for this info was back issues of the TTS Transfer Points, however I would be delighted if someone would be able to check and confirm my info.

The Orions for TEMS were indeed purpose built.

It seems that in the early-ish years of OBI, they were very willing to provide custom-built buses for a variety of uses. Including the ambulances and the Dept of Corrections bus, there have been the Ontario Ministry of the Environment Air Quality Measuring buses (2 of them, I believe... 30'ers) and a promotional unit for Molsons (also 30').

Marshall

EDIT: Just noticed Mr. DeLarge's post with the listing from the Orion builders list... Good catch Sir!
