The TR's do indeed have an associated sound with them! You can hear the low humming all the way from the other station! It's quite ominous.

I find it similar to the H5s.

yeah, on one of my trips on a TR i heard what i thought was a h5 laying over when i entered finch, its kinda sad you know whats in the station based on how a trainset sounds while idling....... its kinda patheic if you think about it,

And brake noise... wheel noise.. Yikes.

Speaking of wheel noise, I find that the TR wheels don't "howl" like the older trains. Like a certain portion climbing between Dupont and SCW NB. What causes the howling noise?

Not sure if "howl" is the right word though.

According to a supervisor at Eglinton, that unit has a known software defect affecting the operation of the HVAC. It's not a mechanical problem.

As I understood it, the unit cuts out the HVAC automatically when it detects a problem with any one of the multiple units on the train. Apparently Bombardier is investigating the issue.

Nevertheless... not sure why they would put it out for service with a known issue. It doesn't appear to affect any of the other operating units.

Is it just me, or do the TR's create a bit of a service gap when they're out during rush hours. Slower closing doors?

I experience that too. Usually it's because the doors can't close, and then the chime rings up to 10 times before we finally leave a station.

Road 5411-5416 again today...this time it was squealing a bit on braking. The chime also randomly rang during acceleration.

5421-26 was on 102 today with about a 3 minute gap between it and the train in front of it. The T1 and H5 behind it were as close together as the signals would allow them to be. I have noticed though that the doors open much faster now on average on the TRs compared when they first entered service.

That's the set I saw at Queen this rush hour. The platforms were packed, the TR was packed, and I ended up waiting for the H5 set (which was still packed, and stop-and-go in the tunnels all the way to Bloor).

The system calling the stations is dead, so is the LED station map.

Saw four sets out today, two in the AM and two in the PM.

543X was out testing just before 10 AM, it pulled SB slowly into SCW, opened it's first door, and seemed to have trouble shutting it as the chime/announcement sequence went three times before it sounded its horn again and pulled away. Was on 197 run, with a bunch of mech and TTC personnel in the cab areas. Was signed to Finch/Downsview.

544X was in service in the morning, heading NB at St.George just after that.

542X was in service NB at St.George Station at 4:46 PM (missed it by about three seconds due to obnoxiously slow walkers) on run 198.

540X was in service SB at Spadina just after that.

Saw a few of those out as well (always going the other way) as well as 5451-5456 doing test runs. I opted to go hunting H4's and H6's instead however...

I spotted 5431-36 on 197 with "Training Train" scrolling on the destination sign just after 12pm northbound at St George. I later saw it just after 3pm in service on 119 southbound at Dundas. Also, I rode 5451-56 on 199 this afternoon around 3:30pm northbound from St Clair.

I saw it (5451-56) heading south through Eggle-ing-ton West around 2:10 NIS. I guess it went into service at some point, maybe deadheaded to a pocket track to wait.

Runs 197 through 199 typically are Standby trains, the ones that sit in pocket tracks and yards during rush hour waiting for a gap in service to fill. These are commonly TR runs because they're not "scheduled" per say and will likely never be involved in changeovers (which runs the risk of a non-TR trained crew having to run it).

Initially the TRs were using runs 196-199 while undergoing training, testing and other stuff. IMO in practice they're spare run numbers that can be assigned to any non-scheduled train so Transit Control knows what they're up to (Bloor-Danforth also uses 296-299 in the same way). Someone with better knowledge of TC can be free to correct me but this is what I've understood to be correct.

540X was in service at SB at St.George this PM rush at 4:45 just before the SCW shenanigans on run 199. It seemed to be having door issues as it took about 10 seconds after the train stopped to open doors and the closing sequence played twice before the doors shut. There were also mechs in the cab area.

TRs tonight:

5401-5406 on 142

5461-5466 on 198

5441-5446 on 143

In this order northbound at Eglinton by 5.30. At the same time a fourth train was heading south at Eglinton but I could not catch the number.
