ETS has more 40 footers to spare than Artics. Besides, the bus doesn't really get stuffed to the rafters anyhow (using an artic would be a waste of space) thereby using a 40 footer makes it look fuller..
awstott
Horrendous waste of money to have a 60ft bus out there - plus there aren't many spares. Foodbank can always come by with one of their trucks to empty out some of the goods if the bus gets too full.
M. Parsons
An artic would take up a lot more real estate in front of a store. With a busy parking lot... not a good idea. Pic might not look busy, but then I'm sure Ashton didn't want cars in the way!
M. Parsons
Working on a few projects for Barp and going through my pics from the last days of the New Look's in October/ November 2009. Brought back a lot of memories to say the least. It wasn't just the GM's either. There was the BBC's being shipped out as well. Looks like we had a lot of productive days in the company of a few board members! Even the hybrids were something to see as they had just lost their wraps in November 2009. October 8: 4 Fishies, just under a month before the end. You wouldn't think they were endangered if you were at the right place at the right time! October 14: Still a month left for the New Look. October 22: My last visit to Mitchell for a PM pullout. Probably the last time I went to a garage really shooting a number of buses leaving. I've been to some since, but usually for a specific reason..... BYD's, and Spruce Grove come to mind. October 26: 3 of us spent some quality time watching BBC's being loaded up at Paterson, followed up by GM stalking in the afternoon. Jasper Place being rebuilt at the time (for the first time) can be seen in the pic of 907. There's other neat stuff we caught 4220 being moved from the paint booth missing windows and decals, #33 being moved around. I can't remember if I noticed it at the time, but 955 is on the 955. That might have been the one and only time I caught a match like November 4: 722. I believe that was the last bus I rode in revenue service. I wish I could recall some of the specifics, but it was probably riding this bus that lead me to using it for my charter. We wanted a roll sign which actually ruled out a lot of the buses in the stripes. In fact, when you look at was left for GM's, there weren't many with roll signs. Some of the buses I just didn't like as well.... like 740. Dunno why, I just didn't like it! Currently, ETS's eclectic mix of cutaway buses is up for replacement. An eclectic mix that replaced one hell of a collection of ELF's, and took a full 6 years to do it.. While I have access to modern technology such as online trackers, and still working a job which affords flexibility with making my own schedule, I find myself chasing down Glaval's and IC LC's with a 1970's OM-1 loaded with slide film. Maybe the thrill of the chase isn't quite the same now, but, I do feel the some of the excitement I had chasing down 'bowls in their last months. No, there won't be a Glaval charter at this point.

It's amazing how an every day shot back then is now "holy shit! it was like that back then?" Here we have a Glaval, out of Ferrier, on a route 79 out of Lakewood. All Glaval's ended up at Mitchell a LONG time ago.... the 78 and 79 are no longer para transit buses period. They have been extended to Century Park and are quite busy routes running between Millwoods TC and CP with many peak hour trippers. Yes, at one time, a lot of the routes in Edmonton started as short, peak hour feeders, and this photos shows the start of one of those routes. 09 at SGT and a interior of 12. Back before we realized what pieces of crap these units were. Just remember, the Glaval's might end up being on Edmonton streets longer than the Passport's, although, at the end of the day it was the Passport's that finally ended the reign of the ELF. Nico Sander
I have two photos that I have taken earlier this week. The first photo includes 4457 on the Route 74 and brand new XD40 7020 as a Route 40. Sorry about the photo quality since these are cell phone images. I hope everyone likes these pictures 2
Matt Dunlop
Good photos Nico. I guess the operators/passengers aren't aware that 7020 has A/C. Lol.

Soooo elaborating on this topic..... These are the additional heaters added in during refurb. And the circular heater/ blower but mounted on inward facing seat. In behind it is presumably an original style heater. I'm not sure if the circular heater/ blowers are original or not. They've certainly been around for as long as I remember. The particular mounting set up for the heater was changed when the car was refurbed. The plate on them looks pretty retro and seems to come from a German vendor. More than anyone probably wanted to known on Edmonton's U2 details 5
