Bus 611 has different rear doors. Any idea where these doors came from? Another bus? The 300 series?

I don’t believe it’s from the 300 Orion’s as they have a diagonal yellow bar. Could just be parts ordered from new flyer and they have a different window setup

There's a 2022 order of XD60s on the way...one was already built and spotted by someone based in Winnipeg

You already put this information in this thread just 8 days ago:

Someone spotted a new XD60 being built at the New Flyer plant in Winnipeg for YRT. It's likely those post secondary students as well as people in the area crowding 40 footer buses

As has been mentioned to you on numerous occasions before, there is a YRT/Viva New Vehicle Deliveries thread, to be used when these vehicles start arriving rather than cluttering up this main thread.

2242 hit service on 20

Stop posting sightings in this topic! You've been asked this numerous times already. We know this order exists and is entering service, so the general news thread doesn't need to know every time an individual vehicle enters service. And it also does not require you to make three posts in three threads for each vehicle.

If you want to post when a vehicle enters service for the first time, make one post the YRT/Viva New Vehicle Deliveries thread - the entire purpose of that topic is to track deliveries and into service dates. Ironically, that's the thread you haven't posted in for 2242 yet.

Strange that YRT hasn't announced service changes for september yet. They Usally announce service changes around this time. Maybe something big is comming up other than the opening of cornell terminal. IIRC there are plans to restructure the 304 to kennedy and enterprise blvd

Don't they usually post near the end of the month (i.e. after the 20th or something)

Usually they post service changes two weeks before the service change date. Only exception is January service changes which is grouped together with the December holiday schedule operating reduced service until school resumes for the year or semester.

September service changes in the last few years were posted around this week. Last year's September service changes were posted on August 16th.

Cornell Transit Terminal opening September 4th.

Worked to copy and paste the service changes for record keeping. Especially with the shift to on-demand along with reallocation of available resources. Viva Yellow running every 12 to 14 minutes during the mid-day is a first. Since it was originally launched with 3 buses providing 15 minute service all-day and being a short route.

Seems like they are trimming service here and there just to make up for the short falls of ridership and to cover the costs of the terminal.

Especially the routes that got service increases (Yellow, Blue and 720 Jane) are ones that have the corridor demand and trip generators to cover the additional costs.

I don't think anyone would want to wait 75 minutes for a departure. Plus some routes are truncated to end at Cornell Transit Terminal and for those wanting Church Street  will have to change buses or a long walk depending on final destination along Church Street.

Purple/Purple A is interesting since it loops around the hospital first before looping into Cornell Transit Terminal. I would give it at least a year before Purple/Purple A to the hospital loop is eliminated unless there is opposition regarding such change just to save a few minutes.

Purple is pretty crowded last I rode earlier last week

If the crowding on purple continues then YRT should atleast bring back the viva pink. However there aren't enough 40 footers at BRT. And there isn't demand for 60 footers. From many times i have taken the viva pink artics aren't warranted on that route

You have to remember that the only 40 ft buses that were purchased from the Viva fleet was during launch in 2005 with the base order of 40 units. An additional 20 were added, but shifted to conventional service. Every order has always been articulated buses since 2007.

York University Markham campus is planned to open Fall 2023 which I would think they would retain Pink to make sure they can handle the demand. Purple A operates every 20 to 22 minutes during the weekday peak periods. Where as mid-day, the frequency drops to every 26 minutes approximately on the September 2022 timetable.

2023 service plan indicates an evaluation of bringing back suspended routes. I think Pink will be brought back versus Green which will most likely be deferred until the revamp to operate along Leslie.

There's currently a huge surplus of 40 foot Viva buses. As mentioned, there's 40 available units, and current peak utilization is 7 (Orange) and 3 (Yellow), giving a ridiculously high 75% spare ratio.

When Pink last operated prior to COVID, it used 9 buses during rush hour (Green used 5). So even if Pink used all 40 foot buses, the 40 foot Viva utilization at rush hour would still only be 47.5% of the fleet.

Pink does use all 40 footer buses. I live in Markham and I used the pink to finch prior to covid19. Many times i've ridden it all of the buses on that route were 40 footers. Rarely an artic may show up.

BRT Stopped sending the 40 footers on purple after first round of closures by the Government were announced

Got a question.

Anyone wonder why alot of the remaining BRT Eldorados are MIA from both North and Southeast.

North Division still uses their BRT El Dorados quite a lot on the 54 Bayview. Especially when it has ramped up back to a higher frequency recently requiring at least three buses during the peak periods. Currently North Division has 5 available to cover the route. Since 54 Bayview has challenges along Newmarket Main Street requiring a shorter vehicle be used.

At the same time, I have seen 40 ft buses appear on the 54 Bayview. Most likely if they need to cover trips rather than prepare if 30 ft buses are retired.

Can't answer for Southeast since I am not familiar with their operations or routes they operate them on.

I think it was mentioned on this board that 2 of SE’s El Dorados were retired and that’s why 1066 was transferred over. I’m assuming 1068 is one of them, which hasn’t seen service since April 2021.

In any case, you can still find most of the remaining ones out each day on the 91B, 82, and 9’s rush hour runs. Also have to keep in mind they’re about 12 years old now and never got any refurbishments like the 40 foot fleet did

1068 was retired due to a fire last year. 993 was retired due to an accident in January 2022.

Community route 522 Markham Local also uses El Dorado buses (990 series) due to some of the stops that aren't accessible with a 40 ft bus plus the purpose of connecting retirement homes with major destinations like the Markville Mall along with the grocery store. Not sure what the future of the route will be being the last remaining community route in-service that is numbered.

They seem to occasionally appear on other lower ridership routes as well. Today, there was one on 80 and none on 82.

On another note, I've been trying to make it up to York Region over the next few days to ride some of the oldest 2003 and 2004 D40LFs in the process of retirement. Where are the best places to find these?

I’ll speak for the 4xx’s. Your best bet is definitely rush hour runs. There’s a run on route 1 Highway 7 that begins from RHC around 2:20PM that pretty often has a 2004 on it, but they can really be anywhere. Transsee is your friend
