I was in Western/Central NY this past weekend and got lots of pictures of the systems there.

Since I was traveling via Greyhound I didn't have the luxury of staying an extra couple minutes in a few towns, otherwise if the bus had been a couple minutes earlier or later in Madison WI, Milwaukee WI, Gary IN, and Erie PA I would have been able to get some bus shots in those places as well.

Also there are some additions to my bus stop sign and Motorcoach sets as well.

Enjoy!

In the 7th picture, they're MCI classics or Nova?

If they are Nova's do you know what engine it has. 6V92TA or S50?

And what year are the D40HF?

Nice pictures!!!

They are 1995 Nova Classics with Series 50 according to the Wiki, which seems very accurate for RGRTA. Didn't get to ride one though.

I didn't know that NFTA-Metro had LFSs.

I had forgotten about them myself so it was sort of a surprise at first ;)

Oh yeah they do and nice pictures MVTArider.

Thanks

It is very interesting how often CPTDB members cross paths. I got some pictures of Centro buses in Utica, NY last week. :)

That reminds me, was anyone from here taking pictures of a new Prevost X3 at the Buffalo NFTA/Greyhound Station on Monday the 27th? Anyways did you see any of their Gilligs or RTS? I saw a Gillig BRT 35 or 30ft on a circulator in Downtown, other than that I only saw the Orion V CNGs and New Flyer C40LFs.

That would be correct.

I'm so surprised NFTA is still running their D40 left! Last time I was there was 2006 and managed to get the last 1991 Orion and the 1992 MCI Classic. Both buses were falling apart big time!

I wouldn't be surprised if they buy more due to the new plant in Plattsburgh.

I hope that's the case. It's better than ordering more Gilligs (virtually anything's better than that...)

All I saw in Utica were small Orion Vs.

They are 1993 models -- most with a 6V92, but there are a few with the Series 50, IIRC.

Detroit and Connecticut also got 1993 D40HFs, but those are retired now. It is a little surprising to see how long they're lasting in Buffalo and that they are not restricted to peak hours.

Centro has 15 Gilligs in Syracuse (nine 40-foot hybrids, three 40-foot diesels with suburban seating and three 30-foot BRT diesels) and two Gilligs in Utica (35-foot diesels). The hybrids run at all hours and are usually not too difficult to find. The 40-foot diesels seem to run mostly during the rush hours on suburban express runs. The BRT buses are in a red wrap for the 'Connective Corridor' service that runs Thursday-Saturday during the school year but have also been showing up lately on the route 443 which connects Syracuse University's 'Warehouse' building just west of downtown with the main campus.

As for the 18 Nova RTS 'wide front door' buses, they run on school trippers mostly as well as a few rush hour trips. The impression I've gotten is that Centro was never happy with these buses because they spent more time in the garage than on the road even when they were new. The Novas are scheduled to be retired next year when 18 Orion VII CNG's arrive.

I got pictures of a few Syracuse Orion V CNGs and D40LFs at Carousel Center in Syracuse this morning, exactly where MVTArider took his! Small world! I'm amazed by Centro's HUGE service area. I saw a D30LF and some MCIs in Oswego this afternoon.

I'm in Rochester (Webster) now, and I'll get some RGRTS photos in the morning.

That's due to the fact that it's an amalgamation of four different transit systems in four counties, unlike most transit systems that only have one city and route network to serve.

Wow, you caught an old Rochester RTS 04. Where'd you find that beauty?

Here :) It was a nice surprise to see it especially since I probably rode on it when I was little. The orange seats and blue/green/orange stripes sure were familiar!

Thanks for the info. I did see a Gillig BRT in a red Connector wrap Downtown, I couldn't get a picture though since I was in the car at the time. I also saw some older MCIs in a creme color with blue band and CENTRO on the side, my Dad said they looked like they were from whoever was running the Oswego bus line IIRC. (Maybe it was just Oswego Bus Lines? been a long day.)

Nice, I remember seeing D30LFs in my Grand Aunt's neighborhood (sort of near Heid's) last time I was there in 2007. Hopefully you were able to avoid having tree branches in your pics at Carousel :D Maybe you can get some artics tomorrow as well, there weren't any when I was there since it was after rush hour.

RGRTA is actually similar, in that they operate the services in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, Wayne, Wyoming and Seneca counties. CNYRTA technically operates four transit entities - CNY Centro (the main operation in Onondaga county) plus Centro of Cayuga, Centro of Oswego and Centro of Oneida in their namesake counties. The main difference is that Centro operates full-size transit buses at all of its subsidiaries while the RGRTA subsidiaries operate cutaway buses.

The legislation which created the CNYRTA also specified three additional counties which can join the authority - Cortland, Jefferson, and Madison. This is up to the county legislature in each area, which would need to follow a similar process to the way that the Oneida county legislature voted to join the CNYRTA and have Centro take over the Utica and Rome city bus systems several years ago.

The white, blue and gold scheme was Centro's first paint scheme for the motor coach buses and is original to them as far as I know. Centro took over the interurban routes from Syracuse & Oswego (Oswego-Fulton and Baldwinsville routes) and Onondaga Coach (Syracuse-Auburn routes) in the early 1990's and did run some MC-9's from those companies but those older buses were retired when the last order of 102A3's came in back in 2001. Centro recently received five D4000's in a new white scheme with green and blue wavy stripes but they appear to be continuing to repaint the older coaches as-is.
