Wasn't there a report published stating:

- Mark IIs as the new cars

- Kennedy Station relocation to current parking lot, eliminating curve

- Midland-Ellesmere curve reconstruction?

It compared it to converting to an extension of the Danforth subway and another option (can't recall ATM)

Here it is: http://www.toronto.ca/srtstudy/pdf/srt-str...plan-report.pdf

The third proposal was to convert it to an LRT line.

It will be converted to accomodate the Mark II cars. Hopefully the TTC will actually take full advantage of the train control system, and run it fully automatic.

Indeed. This system was used in Vancouver and their system runs extremely well. A train would come in about 1 or 2 minutes after the previous one just left*.

Headway of course is mostly independent of the technology used, all it needs is proper scheduling.

The TTC only keeps one driver on for emergencies and etc. They also operate the doors, just because that's something a driver can adjust to in respect to large crowds (since they're already on the train in the first place).

I know the possible outcomes, but did they actually make a decision?

Did you even read the report I posted? It clearly states on the last page that they are recommending the approval of upgrading the line to run larger, new generation cars (Mark IIs).

The computers running the line are definitely old and hopefully will be replaced whenever the MKII's arrive.

As of this past spring, the Scarborough RT is operating in cab signal mode until further notice until. So since then and during the winter, the SRT operators use their controls accordingly in addition to closing the doors.

IIRC they replaced the computer system on the line this year. The manual operation was because the computer system either failed outright or else it was disconnected in case it would fail.

At transit control, but not at Kennedy Station.

There were bugs with ATO which is why operation is regulated to cab signal mode currently.

  • 1 year later...

Okay time to bump.

I was at an open house tonight. And the atmosphere was actually kinda supportive. I do not remember every little detail as people who need to reiterate 40 times over of a concern to one, two... then all the staff afterwards about the Eglinton-Crosstown line and his property and a loud-mouth parading through the place and SPEAKING LIKE SO to Councillor Thompson and some other City officials about Miller this and that.

--sorry, needed to vent.

There were still a few challeneges that still present themselves. Like funding (no, really?). Anyhow, they were thinking of Centennial Station to have two tracks plus a third in the centre for by-pass.

It would be the only station in the entire system to actually have three tracks... inside a station. Let me know if I am missing some where else.

The station has been moved to the east side Progress to better serve the college. They initially planned for the west side.

Another challenge was that they need a connecting service track to the Sheppard's LRT where they are looking at three options. After coming out Centennial Station north over the 401, they are gonna trail along to Markham to Sheppard, or Progress to Sheppard (where they will actually change up Progress Avenue to curve a bit to the west to allow for spacing). And there's a building on a NE corner of Progress and 401 --large building. A third option was to do a Sheppard-Yonge type wye that would eventually come up to grade at Sheppard east of Sheppard Station (wish they would find a different name for it). But it's underground and they looked at costs etc.

Why they need a service track? Well, they chose Conlins Road to house and maintain the LRT vehicles for the SRT. And when the Scarb-Malv. LRT gets funding, then Bellamy Yard would get built. Mc Cowan will still be demolished regardless. I figure it wouldn't be so bad to go the Progress alignment becuase they can also use it in case Sheppard Station has a disabled train blocking traffic then you can divert it somehow.

Phase II to Malvern, will come later, pending funding. most will be underground until just before McLevin.

Anyhow, you'll get a better idea as soon as they release the display placards and any other media on their website within the next few days (if they do).

Kennedy Station looks to be the most complex issue as they would have four lines in (nearly) all four directions), i'm currently undecided on their preffered/confirmed alignment.

If you looked east, they would situate the stacking like this

Current SRT

Bus Terminal

Furture SRT/MEZZ

EC LRT & SM LRT / BD Subway

Funny thing is, becuase of either the busy-busy station would be inundated with all the configurations west of the CNR/GO line, or becuase of the GO line itself and the tunneling issues they made a separate platform for the Scarb-Malv. Line on the east side of the CN/GO...

looking north

Current SRT

Bus Terminal

SRT/MEZZ...................GO Station................Scarb-Malv. LRT

EC LRT / BD Subway
