2007 Orion V Suburban DETAIL PREVIEW

Recommended Posts

Not unless they decide to place a larger order for suburban coaches in the next couple of years. The reason that this order was for Orions is that it was too small of an order for it to be worth it to stock parts for a new kind of bus.

I wonder how much commonality the LFS suburban has with the transit version. I would've expected them to be fairly similar. Isn't the suburban just without a rear door? Or is the floor raised too?

Bear in mind also that the tender for the 9 new highway coaches went out long before anyone could have dreamed that there would be 126 Novas running around by the time the coaches arrived. The alternative consideration at the time was actually the MCI D4500.

Right. That would be why!

For those routes, I think a 'real' high floor bus still has advantages over the LFS suburban anyway.

Well they are good solid busses...but they are cheaper than a D4500 that's for sure. Depends on what you're looking for.

Half as many luggage racks, and there are handles at every second seat, and there are AC vents by the windows.... i think i got them all... oh and the seats are level, with the floor, only the front has the low seats..., and there are no floor lights...

I can't tell, is that the gear shifter to the left of the door handle?

Yep that's it. Also iteresting that there is no centre rear seat like the older batch. Could this be a result of making the Orion V comply with the new EPA standards? This could also why they were delivered later.

Thanks for posting those, and thanks to David for the ones at the begining of this thread. Nice work guys! Is it just me or do the interiors of these new Vs resemble that of GO Transit more than the older ones.

The older batch doesn't have a centre rear seat either, so that's not changed. ;)

Not a problem. Does anyone have a full interior picture of the GO Transit Orion V interiors? I haven't seen one so I can't make the call.

btw: It was me who posted the pictures at the beginning of the thread ;)

Oh I didn't meen for it to be said as a change, but was curious since these buses don't have the same engine as the older batch. If these new ones indeed have the Cummins ISM engine, there should be five seats at the back. Thats why I was wondering if the engine compartment was changed to meet the new EPA regulations.

Ooops sorry, it's the Web site name that must've got me.

Sorry I don't have an interior of a GO V to post, but as far as I recall the upholstery and floor in these new batch of Vs is the same one GO uses on their's.

Looking at the photos on the exterior, they have the Series 50 vents around the exhaust area, particlarly the driver side, could this be the big engine reserved much like Niagara Orion VII? Don't know till it kicks in on the road.

the extra vents around the muffler (note the grille at the top) are more for dissapating the heat that the proprietary Cummins diesel particulate filter generates when the afterburner is active. the stack itself and the area around it seems to have been modified to handle the extreme heat also.

this bus appears to have its exhaust system arranged the same way as an orion 7. orion 5s until recently have had their muffler placed in the engine compartment itself, at the bottom of the stack.

that's assuming that it's cummins (ISl/ISM?)equipped. (DDs50EGR is out of production)

Alright, thanks.

It seems that they went to ZF because the B500R will not fit with the Cummins ISM, but they may have the ISL this time.

  • 2 weeks later...
G Transit could definitely use a few more Orion V suburbans. As much as I like the D4500s, I GO could get by with using a more conventional bus.

They've set their plan not to buy anymore 40ft semi-suburban buses, strictly D4500. Unless something happens.
