Runnymede Station is a rapid transit station and bus terminal operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 265 Runnymede Road. The station bus terminal spans one block between Runnymede Road and Kennedy Avenue just north of Bloor Street West.
History
Runnymede Station opened on May 11, 1968 when the Bloor-Danforth subway line was extended further west from Keele Station to Islington Station in Etobicoke.
Station description
The station is comprised of three levels: street entrance and bus terminal level, and underground concourse level, and subway platform level.
The two entrances to this station are located on the east side of Runnymede Road and on the west side of Kennedy Avenue. Just inside the entrances is the bus terminal waiting area with doors leading to the outdoor sheltered bus platforms. The outdoor bus terminal features three bus bays with the bus roadway stretching along the north side of the station where buses enter from Runnymede Road and exit onto Kennedy Avenue. As the bus terminal is not within the fare-paid area of the station, passengers require a transfer when connecting to buses. Connection to 300 Bloor-Danforth night buses can be made just outside the station at the intersection of Runnymede Road and Bloor Street West.
In the underground concourse, there are stairs, escalators, and elevators which provide access between the bus terminal at street level and the eastbound and westbound subway platforms. The collector's booth and fare gates are also found here. A wall mural titled "Anonymous Somebody" by artist Elicser Elliot is found at the stairways leading to street level. It was installed as part of the TTC's Public Art Program in conjunction with the elevator construction between November 2018 and December 2020. The subway platforms are of the typical Bloor-Danforth style, with green-coloured wall tiles and a blue trim.
Station Improvements
As part of the TTC's Easier Access program, Runnymede Station is to be made wheelchair accessible with the installation of three new elevators. In addition, other station improvements such as new sliding doors at the Kennedy Avenue entrance, improved wayfinding and signage, and new CCTV cameras are to be completed alongside the construction of the new elevators. Construction is to start late November 2018 with completion scheduled in late 2020.[1] On December 10, 2020, construction of the elevators was completed and Runnymede Station was officially declared the TTC's 50th accessible station.[2]
