It was suggested by a number of operators, hence why they changed it to Canada Way.

I'm curious what will be the negative effect on the 28's on-time performance.

While the Laurel route certainly wasn't anything like an exclusive bus lane, it did allow the bus to avoid the busy, single-lane left turn from Boundary SB onto Canada Way, which I think is why it was used in the first place. I'm not there often so don't know how busy it is (or if/how trafic volumes have changed between 2019 and now) but against a seldom-used road and left-turn (protected by a criss-cross box junction!), I can't see this as positive for travel times and OTP.

If the left turn had a new exclusive bus lane then I would say differently, but for now, it appears that buses will have to fall in line and I imagine that it will always take 2-3 signal cycles (or more) to make the turn.

Route 240 will be getting more frequent service and no longer use 60-footers in 2024, presumably coinciding with the R6 implementation:

60-footers are being pulled from the 240 to be used on the 2 and 25

Richmond council meeting agenda includes a staff report on the R7, including Richmond staff recommending against dedicated transit lanes in favour of HOV lanes.

I’m glad to see that three years of delayed intricate and professional planning resulted in a slightly modified 430 that could’ve reached this stage of planning in less than a month three years ago lol

Interesting to see a “Connection to Hwy 99 Express Buses” on Cambie Road

Burnaby City Staff wants the Willingdon BRT to travel via Willingdon, Halifax, 1st, Boundary, Hastings instead of the existing Willingdon, Hastings routing on the 222 due to challenges with implementing transit priority along Hastings or something:

Updated Steveston Exchange proposal now has the on-street exchange west of the existing exchange closer to Garry Point Park instead of the originally proposed off-street exchange to the east on Moncton, apparently it’s “temporary” until TransLink secures a property for a permanent off-street exchange:

The T-Mac got updated with new text messages that Operators can send to T-Comm; some of the new messages are:

"Stationary - Stuck on ice/snow"

"Stationary -Abandoning Bus"

"Stationary - MVA involved with injuries"

The text message that I find intriguing is the "Stationary - Abandoning Bus" message. I suppose they are expecting more days where buses get stuck and the Operator has to abandon the bus and walk home; like what happened last year, and in previous years.

There’s a new plan being made to revitalize the English Bay/Sunset Beach area in the West End. Looks like the CoV wants the 23 to run along Pacific St in both directions instead of the current one-way routing, which leads me to believe this is to implement 40-foot buses on the 23 since conventional buses can’t run along Beach Ave between Howe and Jervis. Plus there’s a potential extension going further towards Stanley Park/Second Beach that they want to “explore”:

Just curious if anyone has observed what Ridership levels are like on the 80? Which is the most busiest trip during both the AM & PM & which is the least busiest

I heard from an operator that ridership is lower than expected.

They haven't built everything quite yet down at River District quite yet.

But at the same time I feel like the ideology of not confusing local and express riders (and thereby screwing riders who want the first option) is more likely the case.
Exhibition 1: Separate stops at Marine Drive Station leading into ineffectivity at alleviating 100 lineups during the PM rush

I think this will be a problem at KPU when the R6 starts service (though I don't wanna detract from the discussion about 80/100)

R7 RapidBus/BRT appears to be officially dead:

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/richmond-brt-rapidbus-rejection-translink

Looks like Richmond City Council would rather have the 480 reinstated and improvements to their local routes.

Now City of Richmond Staff are trying to get City Council to reconsider their decision to cancel the R7. I’m not getting my hopes up on this one though:

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/r7-rapidbus-richmond-translink-route-proposal

They’re making a very bold claim that if the R7 RapidBus isn’t implemented then service levels over the Knight Street Bridge will remain the same until 2035, which I strongly don’t believe would even happen. It would be much easier to just put artics on the 430 and increase the service to every 12-15 minutes all day instead of trying to get priority measures on the Knight Street Bridge.

It is also unknown where the Richmond terminus will be as staff are claiming the new Brighouse Exchange that was designed to handle a RapidBus route is already over capacity and can’t handle a RapidBus route. Looks like they’re now eyeing Aberdeen or Capstan as a potential terminus. I always thought the new Brighouse Loop was kinda small for the number of buses that go through that area.

Do we know what will be replacing attics on the 240? I feel like there aren't enough novas at BTC to sustain a service entirely run by novas (and more frequent). Is BTC going to trade some 60ft for some 40ft with a different depot?

https://www.burnabynow.com/bc-news/translink-to-ditch-60-foot-articulated-buses-for-north-van-240-route-7636471

There will be some sort of cycle involving HTC trips on the 319 and remaining L-drives in that depot in exchange for RapidBus artics - whatever they send among the 18/19/22s.

And if it’s not already made clear, word on the street is that HTC will be in charge of the R6 instead of STC

Given that the intention is to put artics on the 2 and 25, VTC could give up some of their remaining 9000 Novas and maybe even some of the 2018 Novas in exchange for artics.

Or, in a long shot, send BTC the remaining D40LF's in exchange for new artics.  😛
