aemoreira81 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Curious: do any police agencies in Canada utilize retired or diverted transit buses for various purposes? This one looks like a command center. The NYPD has had this bus since 1991.
new.flyer.408 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 I believe the Toronto Police used to have an ex-Toronto Transit Commission GM New Look (#7930)....not sure if it's still around. http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/roberts/234/abbus.htm Images are at the bottom. Site is Fred Tang's.
Board Admin A. Wong Posted November 28, 2008 Board Admin Report Posted November 28, 2008 Calgary Fire Department has/used to have a MC-8. TTC had a MC-9 Command Centre at one point too.
OC Transpo 8238 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 The RCMP used to have a old OC Transpo 76XX Fishbowl, it was scrapped in 05-06.
2044 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Toronto and York Region police have some ex. GO A2s.
MCW Metrobus Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 The City of Vancouver has an ex-transit T6H4523N, #5509, converted to mobile command unit.
aemoreira81 Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 So maybe the TTC could learn a lesson and convert a retired bus to a command center...right? Also, the FDNy also has another 1991 bus, although it still has its seats in it...I'm not sure what its purpose is, although it may be for emergency shelter.

Ive seen 3333 at times sq last year (nypd hwy patrol) So it seems the nypd has more then one ex transit bus in there fleet
BCT-3122-D800-10240 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Calgary police had an ex greyhound MC9 (IIRC) for anti drunk driving purposes for testing, phones etc Yup, and it's been replaced by an Ex-Greyhound MCI 102C3 now! Can't find the pics at the moment though... Calgary also had an ex CTS Flyer D800 as a mobile command post for police, fire, ems

2044 Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Not sure if it was a retired bus though. I believe it was an ex. Grey Coach. The current TTC Comand bus (TTC1) is a Prevost LeMirage entertainer coach.

MaT Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Windsor Fire & Rescue's command center is TW' retired 401(I think, I know its a 4XX Orion I). The bus they hd before that was a TW 7XX new look, I think they still have it too at the apparatus repairshop near my place. I'll add a pic in a bit when I find it.
leylandvictory2 Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 So maybe the TTC could learn a lesson and convert a retired bus to a command center...right? [/quote Most if not all the retired TTC buses are no longer road worthy or not economical to extend their life expectantcy.
OC Transpo 8238 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Does anybody know the fate of the Fishbowl that ran with the NYPD?? I know they had a few Flxible Fishbowls but they also had a GM Fishbowl around.
