  1. St. Alberta has done the same thing. Never put their XD60's into service, dumped them behind the garage, and are running the snot out of the remaining Series 50 D60LF's.
  2. Probably for repair work, maybe a rebuild. Why are you so surprised? You've previously commented on a bus from US agencies at Big Rig for repairs...
  3. 4 Vicinity's outside at Andrews including 2011. Most likely for shield installation. Shields for the Vicinity's are due in next week, but, no plans to bring back Community Service buses for the next sign up that starts June 20.
  4. Might have to adjust the tension of the catenary. Reports of pantograph bounce.
  5. And Edmonton keeps running right a long with Duncan fareboxes, including the units picked up from Translink when they ditched them. I would imagine Calgary still has ex Translink units as well.
  6. I don't know what to make of this. Please enlighten us with details on riots in the US that are targeting LACMTA, NYTA and others. I'm not looking for incidental damage to transit equipment due to civil unrest that started in Minneapolis. You've said specifically riots targeting transit, and in the context of people disagreeing with social distancing signage on buses. You must really believe the worst in people if you genuinely "believe they would be more outright" in their aggression because of signage on bus seats. I've certainly seen people ripping off the signs on buses. In Edmonton granted. Saw it twice. And a lot of Edmonton's are cable tied on. Can't blame static electricity weakening the adhesive when those are missing.
  7. Fantastic work! From my own research into ETS's history I, know the amount of work that can go into digging up some of the material you have, and the time and effort to scan and digitize that material. Well done!
  8. I hate to say it since I know what the pool means to you, but, the manpower needed might not justify the cost given the financial situation the City is in, especially for a limited number of people. Pools should generally be a phase 3 reopening. I believe the City has talked about keeping some facilities closed to save money.
  9. This is a major bump... but... why not? Recently added this slide to my collection. Through the course of random finds over the intervening years, it turns out that Edmonton did in fact put the substations they purchased to use. At the very least one was used to power the Westwood trolleybus substation until the end of trolleybus operations in 2009. One of the rectifiers has been preserved. https://www.ephf.ca/Blog.asp?id=57&title=Solid-State-Rectifier-GE
  10. Something from my collection, Whitehorse 17, ex Calgary Transit 303.
  11. Not much of a question. Most are going to scrap without much in the way of parts removal. It's actually rarer to find a retired bus parted out than largely intact. Some are retired/ out of services buses are parked at the Ellerslie facility.
  12. 4478 and others are nothing special. Buses have slowly been reentering service with shields for the last 2 months. 4267 is the first 4200 to escape retirement and receive a shield. Vice versa, there are 4300's that are likely retired. Hell, 6002 was parked out back of Andrews. Not with the retired buses, likely waiting for a shield, but, you never know.
  13. A stray electric arc would be a hell of a big problem. It's more along the lines of induced currents from the OCS. You'll even see metal benches and other furniture with grounding wires attached to them as well... I believe. I can't remember now if I saw that in Edmonton, Calgary or both. Edmonton doesn't have the raw chainlink fences quite like Calgary does so close to the right of way, but, I believe the newer sections with the decorative fencing are grounded. The grounding wires blend into the fences though. They aren't so ugly and noticeable like Calgary's.
  14. WTF does that matter with battery technology? Still very likely lithium ion and still sucks for the environment. They've just made other components of the propulsion package more efficient for longer ranges I gather You usually hear BYD calling batteries iron phosphate, although, in reality they are still lithium iron phosphate.
  15. https://www.gillig.com/ As for New Flyer and lithium ion batteries... well, from the Nova Bus LFSe spec sheet: BATTERIES 4 Volvo high voltage lithium-ion batteries in parallel https://novabus.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/LFSe_EN_Sept2017-1.pdf And I don't think that any battery technology is particularly harm free to the environment at this time. Some might just be a little bit less harmful.
  16. No BYD, New Flyer, or Gillig options? ? Medium ridership + suburban probably do not belong in the same sentence as "BRT" and even "electric". And what exactly is "medium ridership"? How many people per direction per hour? Frequency?
  17. While a kit lens at the end of the day is a kit lens, I would disagree that a 18-55mm is restrictive. When it comes to shooting film, I was blown away how much of a pain in the ass (and how jealous I was) of a friend who had a 28mm lens and could get in close and tight, while I was stuck with a 50mm. I usually had to wait for him to take his shots before I could as I was standing halfway across the transit centre. If you get much wider than 24-28mm equivalent, you start really getting distortion issues, and even a 28mm will have some distortion if you look for it. I've since upgraded (used equipment for the win) to a 16-50mm. The slightly wider angle is nice, but, not really needed. I can still get in as tight as needed in transit centres, LRT station etc. My 16-50mm F2.8 on the Sony A77II body covers 90% of my requirements. It's gotten to the point where if I need to zoom more than the lens allows, I'll just use the "smart teleconverter" feature which basically just crops the image sensor. I'm not trying to be some super duper photographer. I'm shooting a bus that may or may not make it onto the internet. Using the smart teleconverter simply means I don't need to crop in post production. Having a constant F2.8 aperture however is VERY important when you have the short days during the winter in particular, but possibly shooting inside a LRT Station unexpectedly for whatever reason. For when I do want to pull out the telephoto lens out, it was able to upgrade from the el cheapo ~70-300mm class of lens by picking up a used G series 70-300mm lens for $500. The best kit lens I encountered was the Sony 18-70mm which only came out with the first few generations of DSLR bodies. That thing could cover a pretty reasonable range, but, was also an outlier in kit lens. Image quality was about par for the course.
  18. Who knows how the "recovered" is documented. Is that being certified by a doctor? What if someone is simply isolated at home, symptoms are gone, waiting period is done and nothing formerly gets reported? How does Canada record recoveries vs. China vs. the US etc? I think you're looking to closely at the recovered vs. deaths and probably taking it out of context... Given that there are 3.93M known cases. God only knows how many cases are unknown.
  19. Not sure that's a glitch or a bus left signed in. There's a group of 715X's that started on the 747 today. Except it isn't being run as the 747, it's being run as a charter and is not intended for airport travelers right now. Hence they show as unknown route. It could be glitching and not updating because the bus on the airport charter right now is a XD. I didn't pay attention however to the number however, despite passing right by it. There was at least one LFR that was out on the airport run this afternoon.
  20. They're regauged the PCC, and other museums are regauging CLRV trucks so that would be a minor concern.
  21. Biggest problem is no turning loops. Barn capacity is fine since they have only 3 cars up there right now. There was talk about being offered a second Melbourne car but I don't believe that has gone anywhere. Wouldn't be a bad thing to have the capacity... it would suck if they had 33 or 930 down and it was up to 247 to help haul passengers during the Fringe! Not a factor this year mind you.
  22. I'd be quite happy with a late summer 2021 LRT opening but I have my strong doubts. One calculation I did with the build running at 70% on time meant a 17 month delay that would mean a mid 2022 opening. They're on time didn't improve much between Q3 and Q4 2019. Let's hope it does for Q1 2020. I figure they need a 85% on time rate for a mid 2021 opening.
  23. Time, money, and priorities? Trust me. Digitizing a collection is a hell of a lot of work, and it's probably not a high priority for a transit agency, especially if it costs money. There's also probably a lot less out there than you might think directly from CT. Other source are another issue, but, then, time, money and priorities for them as well. Even for me to share it through Barp or Flickr, it costs me money to share it for free, of course, my priorities can change if there money involved for me!
