That makes sense, as the Corridor trains are the only ones with Wi-Fi, so they would have a cellular connection to report GPS.

Wi-Fi is available on the Ocean's  Renaissance Lounge-Service Cars....and has been for several years.

Would it have been an option to provide a trainset by VIA to run as far as possible, then offer up the bus connection?

Also, it says that track work is being performed by CSX ... which is in the US ... which is not where the train will be terminating on the 24th and 25th. I'm curious as to where the trackwork is, and the extent of it.

Judging by this map there's maintenance in the area of the Niagara Falls Ny Airport.
Csx system map for reference.

Hard to disagree, considering they've been painted as evil due to their high fees to keep a marginal route at best going...

Greyhound fares on that route are actually pretty decent have u looked online...its way cheaper to book online now for Any routes, some as much as 30-40% off the reg fare. The main revenue generator on that route is Freight, thats why it runs westbound from Prince George at night ..!

Effective today (October 31/16)....... VIA is adding an additional Ottawa-Toronto round trip increasing service to 9 trains a day each-way....and all offer Business Class. Weekend service varies.

VIA owns nearly the entire 110 km between Ottawa and Brockville (except for some terminal trackage in Ottawa and Smiths Falls) and has extensively rebuilt this route. At Brockville, trains enter CN's Montreal-Toronto main.

And on a side note....the Moncton Times & Transcript is reporting that VIA is still planing to introduce a Maritime regional rail service in 2017.

If they aim at business customership, they should concentrate the schedule on early morning and late afternoon departures, instead of having all those mid-day departures service ending at 6 PM...

Any new info or just the same gossip that's been going around for months? I'm starting to think that the Gaspé rolling stock and personel could be affected to this regional link, dropping the eventuality of the return to Gaspé, where the new station is still waiting for its first passengers.

They do have a train that leaves after 6 in each direction arriving at their destination before midnight...

But unless you are downtown it might not be enough time to make it to the train.

They should bring the Enterprise back to allow you to get to Montreal for the morning.  If it cost the same as a hotel for a night then it would make sense for business travelers.

Via doesn't run on CP tracks. The places that they could could expand on are all CP tracks.

Smiths Falls, for one.

The biggest thing for an Edmonton-Calgary route is to make it competitive, you're looking at speeds averaging about 90 mph. And the problem with that, is the line can't support it without major investments to infrastructure (too many level crossings to run at those speeds safely).

If they were to run it at the current speed limits it would at least be an option. As it gets busier, upgrading the line would happen.

Sure they do:

Directional running in BC for about 250km: the eastbound Canadian crosses the Fraser River over to CP at Mission then runs to Nepa/Coho/Basque just south of Ashcroft. Westbound trains run on CN.

They also use different station stops in the BC directional running territory (CN Westbound – CP Eastbound)

Abbotsford w/b and Mission e/b – 14 km apart

Chilliwack w/b and Agassiz e/b – 24 km apart

Hope w/b and Katz e/b – 8 km apart

Boston Bar w/b and North Bend e/b – 1 km apart

And there is also about 150km of directional running in Ontario. All westbound trains including the Canadian run on CP from just south of Parry Sound to the Wanup/St Cloud diamond south of Sudbury. All eastbound trains are on CN......so the Canadian uses different stations in Parry Sound: e/b CN and w/b CP.

I did not realize that.

Having said that, it is still a small portion compared to CN.

With the mobile tracker down, I had to go with plan B today and head to Toronto's Union station to confirm train #2's arrival time at Toronto. Amusingly, it was late for its late arrival. (Scheduled for 9:30 am. Arrival board at Union at noon gave a 1pm estimated arrival time. It passed the Riverdale walking bridge at 1:15pm.)

And because my attempts to catch it were relating to it being at TMC (You'll probably be amused by this when you consider how the Canadian deadheads to Union):

Also, why so many domes? (I'm assuming it has to do with winter service levels)
