Just to clarify, this is a service improvement? Because 4 - Riverdale service ends earlier than the other routes?

Yes, this is a service improvement.  The Riverdale bus normally ends at 7:25 pm on weekdays, and 6:15 pm on Saturdays.  For scheduling purposes it won't cover the whole neighbourhood, but it's better than walking from the Benson Centre.  And best of all, they won't need an extra bus.

I'd say the 71 EXPRESS routing would be a good model for Sunday Service (for one day when/if the city decides to implement Sunday Service).  Add that with a Pitt/McConnell route running every hour, only 2 buses will be needed.

From what I heard, only 5% of ridership would use the Sunday service. The story got overtaken in the latest news cycle by the fire pit ban and the proposal for more Sunday service was inadvertently brushed aside.

According to Mr Tapp, the demand for service in Riverdale after route 4 service ends could be as much as 1-2 persons per trip and as little as one request per evening. He says it is a great use of available resources and time. It is only a five minute detour vs the 3 Brookdale bus sitting on layover and being unproductive. Cornwall Transit might have taken inspiration from the successful on demand service successfully undertaken by Belleville Transit.

Anyone able to tell me what 71-EXPRESS is...?  I've seen the signs popping up on Brookdale.  According to the tracker it's Route 3....

I asked Mr Tapp about the backstory since there doesn't appear to be a press release anywhere. As surmised earlier in the thread, the idea is to connect major trip generators together on one route. The advantage is being able to ride the 71 on both Montreal Road and Second Street without having to transfer downtown. Ridership is low in the morning but picks up in the afternoon. It is a hit with the St. Lawrence College students! A new network map should be printed in December 2019 to show the changes.

Bus procurements: between 2020 and 2024, Cornwall Transit hopes to acquire 2 diesel LFS (as part of Metrolinx procurement initiative) and 1 handi-trans vehicle per year. The remaining 1998 Orion VI will be phased out progressively, followed by the El Dorado buses (assuming the E-Z Riders do not have major failures before then). So, we will not host a Christmas Lights charter this year in Cornwall sadly but rest assured we will be back to give the Orion VI a fond farewell charter. Note to interested parties wishing to acquire the used Orion VI buses must go to govdeals auction website.

Cornwall Transit is not expecting any new Nova deliveries in 2019. They are waiting for confirmation of federal funding before putting in the order. Queen's Park has already ponied up the cash.

Finally, Mr Tapp expects to retire in Nov 2020 after several decades on the transit scene in both Calgary and Cornwall.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what routes the Orion VI's are assigned to? I'm hoping to get a few last pics before they're retired?

They've often been found on the business park runs at rush hour.  Sometimes they'll assign one of them to Route 1 as well.

I can sure appreciate the cleanliness of those vehicles, both inside and out.

9887 would be an interesting charter contender given its relative one off livery. Time will tell when we actually do this though. Stay tuned.

9887 sure is an interesting vehicle,  with many features of its past life with Missisauga Transit! It's one off livery is Cornwall Transit Nova LFS inspired, and still has a few interior decals from predecessor MiWay!

Last Wednesday and Thursday,  was supporting the Cornwall Business Park S2.

Cornwall Transit posted on their facebook page indicating that they are reducing service as of Monday.  Looks like it'll similar to Saturday service levels, plus the Industrial runs.  There was no mention if 71-Express will be suspended....

Cornwall Transit is scaling back service further than initially planned.  Saturday service will run Monday to Saturday until 8:45 pm.  An on-demand service for essential travel only will be available after 8:45 pm.  The Business Park routes will continue to run; however 71-Express is suspended for the time being.

I thought that it would be good to include the memo from the website, in case we wanted to search quickly re: COVID-19

Quote

Cornwall Transit is reducing its service schedule, effective Monday, March 23.

From Monday to Friday, an enhanced Saturday service will be implemented. Cornwall Transit is urging that passengers only travel when it is essential to do so.

Conventional frequency will be:

  • Every 60 minutes from 6:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
  • Every 30 minutes from 10:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
  • Every 60 minutes from 6:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.

Service to the Cornwall Business Park will remain in place.

The Community Bus Service route will not operate on Wednesdays.

Handi-Transit will operate from 6:06 a.m. to 11:25 p.m. and will accommodate all essential trips, including medical appointments, dialysis appointments, and travel to grocery stores and banks. To book a trip, call 613-930-2636.

On Saturdays, conventional bus frequency will be every 60 minutes from 6:45 a.m. to 11:45 p.m., and there will be no community bus service.

There will be no charter service.
