York University GO Station was a GO Transit train station located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The station was located at 595-A Canarctic Drive, southeast of the intersection of Keele Street and Steeles Avenue West and a few blocks east of York University's Keele Campus, which the station was named after.

History

The station officially opened on September 6, 2002, although it had been in use since the beginning of the Fall semester for York University. York University extended its shuttle bus service to connect with the train at this time.

The station was originally planned to be replaced with the new Downsview Park GO Station which begins operation on December 30, 2017 since the new TTC Line 1 subway extension also provides a connection with York University. However, this was met with opposition from students and staff at York University, and the local city councillor.[1][2] The station remains in operation but as a compromise, off-peak service no longer stops at the station with service stopping in the peak direction only.

On July 19, 2021, GO Transit closed the station as part of infrastructure improvements to implement all-day train service on the Barrie line.[3]

Station description

The station platform is situated on the west side of the tracks and is accessed only through a walkway between two industrial buildings off of Canarctic Drive, where the York University Shuttle bus stops on the street. This station has no station building but a ticket vending machine is available inside a shelter on the platform near the walkway entrance for ticket purchases. Trains only stop at York University during rush hour periods. Passengers can use the nearby Downsview Park GO Station which opened in late 2017.

Connecting routes

Buses stop on the street outside the station entrance walkway as there are no off-street facilities available. The nearest connection to TTC service is the 107 St Regis route on Petrolia Road.
