San Mateo County Transit District

The San Mateo County Transit District (or SamTrans) provides public transportation to San Mateo County, California and as well as portions of San Francisco and Palo Alto. SamTrans owns a fleet of approximately 310 buses, and operates over a network of 76 bus routes, several of which are contracted by MV Transportation.

History

  • SamTrans was established in 1976.
  • SamTrans took over the Greyhound peninsula commute routes in 1977, then they contracted with Greyhound to operate the routes. Greyhound lost the contract after their strike in 1990. Grosvenor Bus Lines was awarded the contract afterward. Today, MV Transportation is the contracted operator for several SamTrans routes.
