Connect Transit is the public transit provider for the city of Bloomington and the town of Normal in Illinois.

History

  • Established in 1972 as Bloomington-Normal Public Transit System.
  • On August 13, 2012, the bus system was rebranded as Connect Transit.

Note: Bus service does not run on Sundays (except the NiteRide (Red) route), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

Redbird Ride

The Redbird Express and NiteRide routes provide services in and around the Illinois State University campus area and only operate during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Ex-SamTrans 603, 602, 606, 607, 617, 636, 614 & 620; purchased in early 2012.
  • Their Clearie DPF retrofits were removed upon arrival and replaced with standard Gillig exhaust systems.
  • Their original flipdot signs were replaced with LED headsigns upon arrival.
  • 9805 caught on fire and retired in January 2017. It was auctioned off on 5/10/2017.
  • All other units retired by late 2017 and were auctioned off on 1/16/2018.
