SamTrans 850-899 were 1984 Gillig Phantom 40' (40TB966V92) buses. They were originally spec'd with Telma retarders with their transmissions, but were later removed due to some overheating and catching on fire. Some units were assigned to contract runs, originally operated by Greyhound Peninsula Lines until 1990, Grosvenor Bus Lines until the early 2000's and finally MV Transportation. They sported "9" in front of their fleet numbers.
