The Gillig BRT is the BRT styled option for the Gillig Low Floor. The bus features flush-mounted passenger windows, a redesigned curved front and rear, and a new dashboard design. It is available with wide, mid-width, or narrow rear doors.

The windows on the doors originally used rounded edges, but squared edges were made standard around 2008. The front of the bus originally had the destination sign window as part of the one-piece windshield. The option to have the destination sign window separate from the windshield and have a two-piece windshield was made available later in 2008. In late 2009, the headlight cluster was slightly altered for an order for Transport of Rockland of Rockland, New York. The altered headlight cluster was soon made standard.

The BRT has a diesel-electric hybrid option available which adds a rooftop battery unit to the rear. The Allison parallel hybrid system was the initial option, but the Voith parallel DIWAhybrid began being offered in 2008. The BAE Systems series system became an option in 2011 with Red Rose Transit Authority the first customer to specify this option.[1] On October 26, 2009 a gasoline-electric hybrid powered version of the BRT was unveiled.[2] It was built for LeeTran of Lee County, Florida. Gillig partnered with Enviromech Industries in March 2010 to supply CNG systems for use in Gillig buses.[3] The first CNG BRT order was for Long Beach Transit in 2011.
