Toronto Transit Commission 5500-5575 are Hawker Siddeley Canada H2 subway cars built in 1971. They are aluminum-bodied cars, classified as RT-75 (Rapid Transit, 75' long) by their builder, but known as H2's by the TTC. The H2's were basically identical to the earlier H1 series cars, with some minor changes (cab control improvements, traction motors and interior colour). They were ordered to expand the the fleet for the North Yonge and planned Spadina extensions.
As the fleet was being delivered, cars 5500-5505 were reclassified as H3's when they were equipped with Hitachi chopper control equipment (which would later be used in H5 cars). They were evaluated in 1973, and lasted until 1984 when they were converted back to H2's.
All of the H2 cars were retired in 2001. None became work train service cars.
