History
Order
This batch is an option from the contract for 1700-1829 exercised in October 2009 for 35 buses to be delivered in 2011 totaling $18,961,931.10. The 35 buses were deemed necessary to maintain service levels as outlined in the Bus Fleet plan (published in 2009) and other reviews and discussions.[1]
Modifications
Due to the new EPA 2010 emissions regulations in effect, these buses were built to that standard. This resulted in an adjusted design from the previous batch. 8300-8334 are of Orion's "EPA 2010" Orion VII design which includes the 2010-compliant engine and after-treatment system, roof mounted HVAC, and reduced rear door height. The TTC also took advantage of a new option offered by Orion, which was traditionally glazed windows instead of the bonded type on previous orders. This window design costs less and is easier to maintain. The interior is largely similar to past orders and the buses are equipped with bike racks, automated announcements, CCTV cameras and driver barriers.
This series started getting the new Computer-Aided Dispatch and Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) Vehicle Information System and Integrated Operations Network (VISION) system installed in November 2018. The entire series was equipped with VISION by January 2019.
Deliveries History
All 35 buses (8300-8334) were delivered to Wilson division, allowing them to replace the remaining 2200, 2300, 2400, 2700 and 2800 series GM New Look buses as they were the final non-accessible buses to be retired.
Movement History
From March 2024-Current, this series are being transferred to Queensway to replace some of the retiring 2007 Orion diesels. As of June 22nd, 2024 all 35 units have been transferred to Queensway.

This series is currently operating out of Queensway division. They may appear on routes: 15 Evans, 26 Dupont, 30 High Park North, 37 Islington, 40 Junction-Dundas West, 44 Kipling South, 46 Martin Grove, 48 Rathburn, 49 Bloor West, 50 Burnhamthorpe, 55 Warren Park, 66 Prince Edward, 73 Royal York, 76 Royal York South, 77 Swansea, 80 Queensway, 110 Islington South, 111 East Mall, 112 West Mall, 123 Sherway, 127 Davenport, 145 Downtown/Humber Bay Express, 176 Mimico GO, 189 Stockyards, 203 High Park, 300 Bloor-Danforth, 304 King, 315 Evans-Browns Line, 337 Islington, 504 King, 900 Airport Express, 937 Islington Express, and 944 Kipling South Express.
Retirement
The TTC originally planned for these buses to have an 18-year lifespan, however, they began to phase out the fleet in September 2024 as the TTC began to order 340 eBuses built by New Flyer and Nova Bus to replace the series.
