No need to quote me three times to get a response. I'll respond when I can.

Indeed. And on the opposite side of the spectrum, I do not think it's helpful to state when one last saw a bus, in lieu of a last day of operation. Frequently the case is that the bus made it out in service again afterwards.

Are the 8100s in worse shape than the 8000s or even the hybrids? At last count that's six 81s that have been put out to pasture now, which is rather significant for a fleet that's not supposed to be retiring en masse.

8100 is now retired and has been decommissioned.

What happened to it? Are they really doing this to make way for electric buses? At this point there's no way the NG diesels aren't slowly in the process of retirement

Many of the current hybrids have already entered service, though.

Quick glance at our wiki shows 124 outstanding: 37 Novas, 19 New Flyer rigids, 68 New Flyer artics. If we assume that these will replace a similar quantity of Orions still left behind, let's estimate, 160? due to the higher capacity of the artics (no idea if those numbers track), that would still leave you with 348 Orions. This is not enough to do even a 1 to 1 replacement, never mind, as you yourself pointed out, increasing the spare ratio as they can't last in service as long as the diesels.

I must ask again if there is any official confirmation that the 2015-16 Novas are going to be killed off in the near term. That seems like an astonishingly shortsighted plan. I do not think we are so well off in this country that the money to replace ~220 low floor, air conditioned buses that are not even a decade old couldn't be put to far better use.

You guys forgot another factor in this calculation.

Lines 5 and 6 should come online by Dec 2024 which according to Steve's article a few years back, should reduce (if memory serves) 75-100 buses. Then there's less streetcar replacement buses needed now VS a few years ago. They can just retire this amount without a replacement.

You would think they would get rid of the Orion Hybrids first before the 8100s.

The LRTs, despite no opening date, shouldn't affect the bus fleet just yet, untill both lines are open.

And the 33xx soon to be going through rebuild in mass.

i believe it was already noted several months ago,TTC had a surplus of buses. And 340 ebuses about to start deliveries. So I guess the can get rid of more buses without it affecting their service

I am 95% sure that 1000's will last a little bit longer then the 8000's

Also

8015, 8017, 8018, 8019, 8031, 8048, 8054, 8078 and 8086 might be next for retirement

8019 and 8078 are at Willson

8015, 8018, 8031 and 8054 are at North queen.

8017, 8048, 8086 haven't been tracking in a while

Some units at Wilson, might be just helping Queensway out with repairs and not actually retirement. Wilson also has a bunch of 8100s. They even have 7200s there.

So once the 8000s are completely gone Queensway's over the hill aging fleet will probably look something like this:

NG Diesels - 8100-8219 - (minus the few retired units)

EPA10 1st batch - 8300-8334 (35 units)

LFS Novas 3317-3369 (53 units)

Could also get more EPAs from the 2nd batch or 3300-3316. Perhaps some 3200s will temporarily migrate when the 3300s start rebuilding.
