I’m hearing that 1086 faced a fatal mechanical last night on the 935 at Jane & Alliance and I assume that it’s likely done, popped a traction motor apparently.

Maybe @BusFanForevercan provide us with more information since he works at Mount Dennis and has kept track of every single unit that has retired.

It wasn’t sounding too great recently. It was one of 3 units that retained its original odometer, clocking in over 1 million km

Is that a standard mileage for a bus of 18 to reach?

Related question: how much kilometers does the average bus rack up in a year?

I’m pretty sure after rebuild TTC considers the bus as 0km on the odometer, so for the OGs it’s double the mileage than they show.

1.4-2.0M km (OGs) since rebuild so divide that by years in service since rebuild and you’ll get an answer. So my guess a TTC buses average about a few hundred thousand kms per year.

8023 is at North Queen in a decommissioned state and 8044 is no longer at NQ.

Are the garages so jam packed that they can't keep the retired buses awaiting scrap? Seems like a waste of time and money to tow it from the garage to NQ when Langilles could pick it up from the garage it was decommissioned at. Unless it was decommissioned at NQ (if that's even possible)

Well 8023 was decommissioned at Mount Dennis so I guess after they’re done with it they leave it at NQ. They did this with 8065 as well.

I'd be surprised if there's a standard mileage. Buses out all day on long fast suburban express routes can rack up a lot more than a bus plodding up and down Sherbourne or Pape. But the latter may have more wear from all the starts/stops and passenger loads.

Plugging in a million km, and assuming the bus is on the road 360 days of the year (unrealistic!) that's 154 km per day. 360 days a year. For 18 years. I think that's pretty respectable.

interesting on how they're being sent to MtD for decomming instead of Hillcrest.

I think it's safe to say 8022 is done, It's still tracking in the dead lot and has been there for over 2 weeks now.

1/3 79xx units are out at the moment:

7941 - 501 Queen

1086 appears to be back in a track according to Transsee. Glad they repaired it!
