“At approximately 10:04pm,” Detective Steve Adair tells 660News, “an articulated city buss was parked just outside of City Hall. The bus driver got off the bus, forgot to put the parking brake on, and put it into park and the bus started to roll away. It continued northbound on MacLeod Trail, crossing over 7th Avenue and striking some scaffolding at Rocky Mountain Plaza.”

Calgary cop didn't even think before speaking. There is no park on a transit bus transmission selector, he meant neutral. Love how the cop says the driver will likely face charges - hopefully the ticket says "transmission not placed in park" and the driver successfully fights in court.

I doubt it, there's probably more then that. I can guaranty he or she will loose his or her job over that one.

I certainly hope he doesn't lose his job. We've all done something absent-minded either involving a commercial or personal vehicle. Hopefully the transit union goes to bat for this operator since nobody was hurt and damage was minimal. Guarantee he'll make sure the maxi brake is set from now on. Turning his steer tires into the curb might have prevented the incident and I didn't see too many operators doing this when parking their buses when I was out west.

Or maybe a police detective isn't (and would have no reason to be) familiar with how the transmission on a transit bus works.

I disagree - even if he wasn't the one to actually investigate the accident. The investigating officer would have entered the vehicle to look at the drivers compartment and clearly noticed the lack of a "P" on the selector, and would have at least asked a transit supervisor to describe the proper way to secure an unattended bus. Those findings/comments would have been made available to a police spokesperson.
