This is not a big issue. The guy could have easily asked the operator what the route is. The 7600 buses out of Stoney are supposed to have a sheet behind the operator seat with a listing of all the codes for Vultron signs. 90% of the buses don't have this sheet of paper. This is the only series of bus that has this sign. At present, the best you are going to get is "Route 303" without someone coming to program all of these buses for Max Orange. With budget cuts, I am not sure how high a priority this will be. Transit website shows Max Orange as 303, Purple as 307, etc. As an example, If you are doing a route like the 124, you need a code for Evanston and another for North Pointe. Usually its: 124 XXX 00, where 124 is route code and XXX is what gets changed manually by the operator. The problem lies where you don't know the code and don't have the sheet. Default is to put something like this: 124 124 00. This will display "Route 124" all day long until it's changed. 00 is public message which most of us don't use. All other buses change signs automatically no matter if they are Balios or Luminator signs or anything else. CAD automatically changes and stores destinations into Destination A. The operator rarely has to manually change signs on their own and most don't. In fact, several hundred people have been trained since CAD was installed and most don't change signs on their own. CAD does all the changing. 7600 is only series of bus that requires manual changing. It used to be fun driving 7500 and 7600's with vultron signs when doing a 28 and then switching to 83 as you have have to change 6 numbers and hit reset. I always waited til I got to Canyon Meadows station after bus was stopped before changing. It did confuse the people a bit but was the safest way of doing it. Another solution to the issue is maybe put an Orange coloured piece of paper where the keybox is. This twitter rant really is a non-issue. What is an issue is the new Nova CNG buses. Many of them display "OFF" on the back sign when they are used for Max Orange. I would think that this would be a more important thing to fix then 7600's whose best days are behind them.

Maybe a different company should have been chosen. These guys have a worldwide reputation for corruption. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2008/12/16/business/worldbusiness/16siemens.html?_r=0&referer=https://www.google.ca/ http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0RU1U020150930 http://www.siemens.com/press/pool/de/events/2008-q4/2008-q4-legal-proceedings-e.pdf

Most of the winnipeggers have their Emergency Alarm failing when CAD boots up. Hopefully doesn't fail when an operator actually needs it

There are some AG 7500s that don't have cad either. One of them (either 7576 or 7567) doesn't have a camera either. 7691 didn't have CAD either last time that I drove it. Had same bus a few days in a row.

And so begins the privatization of Calgary Transit. A P3 garage where one of the conditions for government funding is that all maintenance has to be done by a private company. Feel bad for the mechanics, servicelane and other maintenance personnel who might lose their jobs or miss out on opportunities due to CT building the garage through a P3.

7963 has no CAD. Not sure why. It drives better then most buses out of AG. As an operator I find those announcements very annoying. Some of the AG 8000s already have announcement for "stop requested". Easy way to disable it along with any other announcements is to turn down all the volumes after logging in and then don't shut off bus otherwise you will have to repeat.

I agree. He stops every 2 min at a station and could have looked then at daytimer. When in motion, he should be focused on what is in front of him. He could hit an object or a person going around curved section of track or run red light and dump his train or even miss stopping at a platform. Being a senior driver with his 85 factor he will probably end up retiring. Anyone else would have gotten canned.

It's all related to low ridership during those times and the fact that shuttle gets paid less with less benefits.

Yes in theory it's possible. Reality is we can't use the system while driving. Whole process of stopping and securing bus and typing in request and the 3-4 min window won't work unless the other bus sees the message. He has to be stopped to see it. 95% of such requests are made by customer last minute when the bus is on other side of intersection. Only way to ensure it happens is to ask for it long in advance and hope other bus gets there afterwards. While we have exemption under distracted driving law for radio the same is not true for cad/avl.

GPS is a great thing but there are some issues with it too. It will stop those who follow other buses for entire shift a block away and do no work themselves. It will stop those who run hot causing the key behind them to get overloaded. It will interesting to see how late buses in the garage get calling dispatch to get a problem fixed since you won't be able to communicate directly anymore. You won't be able to call the maintenance personnel either (25, 33, etc.) Dispatchers will have to really pay attention to their monitoring screens otherwise some operators will easily pass their 10 minute set up times waiting for a response. Communication between operators will grind to a halt as well. No more calling other buses for transfers. No more warning others that Deerfoot is backed up. No more calling Control to offer to do a fill trip. You will have to wait for them to call all buses with generic broadcast and then type back.

7800 ended up stuck in the Vista trap tonight

The 100 in rush hour was killing a trip in rush hour last Signup. With the interlining and having reliefs at both WW and CT, it's messed things up even more. The 300 should have been left the way it was until construction was all done. Seems like signed up ops on 300's are getting a licence to run late and kill trips and have them filled with floaters everyday.

Some of the keybox numberrs don't work and they never get fixed so operators with those buses don't bother setting it.

Operators of the equipment were never consulted about Series 8's, Arbocs, Novas, and other stuff. You can eliminate problems by consulting the people who are ultimately going to drive the equipment. Instead what you have is a growing list of operators with medical notes saying that they can't drive certain types of buses like Novas. The problem is only going to get worse if this trend continues for new equipment purchases.

Out of AG: 5022 and 7564 both have CAD system installed. 5022 doesn't have the announcement screen yet though.
