  1. It was one of the hottest days of the year, and James foraged out into the unprotected wilderness of LRT land to get first rate pictures They are somewhere on www.trolleybus.ca
  2. It's indeed unfortunate that many junior guys / gals are getting an unfavorable first impression of trolleys. It's really difficult to turn attitudes around once this happens (See Ferrier for details).
  3. OK, that's what I figured you meant. Other observations today, LOTS of trolleys on the Route 5 Run 318 has a D40LF two days in a row
  4. Come off the wire, or come right off the bus ? Yes # 132 & # 146 are out of MitcHELL Dennis had Unit # 132 on Monday. Probably just doing some work around Cromdale
  5. Leger is north of 23 Avenue and South of Hodgson Blvd and Rabbit Hill Road.
  6. This morning John on the Route 3 said that the traffic lights came down at 154 Street and 118 Avenue and it was a really BIG mess. He's trying to find out who was responsible so he can buy that person a coffee. He says he'd like to see it ALL torn down Now you know why I'd rather have Geoff back on the Route 3. Geoff doesn't talk like that. Geoff's a real sweetheart, not Grumpy like John. I just wonder why stuff like this keeps happening. It sure doesn't look good for the innocent trolley bus. Is it poorly maintained OH, is it careless drivers, or poorly trained drivers ? Or just an unlucky combination of 'all of the above' ? This does have to be addressed. How can incidents be reduced ? It seems like it is getting worse instead of better.
  7. Of course I got to the pool about 1445 and missed all the excitement Obviously the pole incident and the stub bus operation are tied into the same incident. I also heard there is substantial guy wire missing from 154 Street and 118 Avenue and there is a slow order in both directions.
  8. My (work) source it was an outage at 124 Street and 107 Avenue. My source also said to expect delays on Routes 3 & 7 ( ) Comes from being in an oxygen-less basement and not getting out much
  9. So are you on vacation this week ? There's an ETC meeting Thursday Night, 1900 hrs. lower level Scotia Place. (Follow the trolley wires south on 101 Street to 101 A Avenue )
  10. Dutch ancestry, but born in Edmonton.
  11. All diesels today Pally has returned from his golfing with Geoff and Janice. An Oriental lady came up to him this evening and handed him a bag with some individually wrapped oranges and a red envelope containing a dollar coin. She gave me two oranges also, but no coin. Pally put the red envelope in his pocket. He was thrilled, telling me she gave him the same thing last year. A lot of the 'regular' passengers are very nice towards their bus driver. It is always heartwarming to witness things like this.
  12. Now what's a prep/preppie ? (Sorry, I've been talking translingo all my life and really did miss out on a bunch of other language. I learned some stuff from my kid, but he didn't use some of these terms).
  13. I think that short turn loop is tied off, but it wouldn't take much to 'untie' it. Could run the Route 2 right into JPC # 169 & # 196 do look very good, but then there's that cleaning function on your camera
  14. Old person asking stupid question here.....what's a FOB (Fat Old Bast****) (Fashionable Old Broad) (Fun On Buses) (Free Open Booze) ? And I suppose a prep is short for a preppie, but I've never really understood that term either. So if someone could enlighten me on both, I'd appreciate it....thanks bunches.
  15. I thought that too , but the other side of my brain kept saying there has to be a way.
  16. How would you have managed yesterday's wire break at 124 Street & 102 Avenue NB ? I would have ran the Route 5's from WTC, 135 Street, 114 Avenue, 124 Street, 107 Avenue, 101 Street, 102 Avenue, 95 Street, 118 Avenue to the Coliseum, then 118 Avenue, 95 Street, 102 A Avenue, 97 Street, Jasper Avenue, 101 Street, 107 Avenue, 124 Street, 114 Avenue, 135 Street. I would have run a stub service from the loop at 124 Street and 108 Avenue to 97 Street and 102 Avenue. It doesn't seem very practical though. Does anyone have suggestions as to how yesterday's incident could have been managed better keeping as many trolleys on the road as possible?
  17. JPC was open on Friday morning. Shaw Conference Center EB, sometimes the Route 120 doesn't switch over, sometimes the Route 5 or 135 will have a pole kicked off. 82 Street & 111 Avenue NB, the r/h pole on the Route 120 wants to go to Highlands. Probably this is just after a 'training' bus goes through to Highlands and the right switch doesn't return to it's set position.
  18. Dennis had Unit # 179 this morning. A nice ride to work, for sure !!! The day began with lots of lovely trolleys. Then at about 1615-1630, Unit # 172 dewires at 124 Street and 102 Avenue NB. A wire breaks and apparently a special part is needed that the trouble crew doesn't have and the trolley crew is not working on the weekend. Probably affected the circuit along Jasper Avenue between 124 Street and 102 Avenue to 116 Street and Jasper Avenue. Someone else may be able to give more details re: circuitry. Mass Dieselisation orders in effect. After work I caught Nick on the Route 5 !!! Thank Goodness, one of the Trolley Troopers. I find out he's from Toronto, near Finch and Bathurst and has a fondness for trolleys He says he's going to ask if he can take one of the stranded trolleys to WW after he gets relieved Downtown. I don't know whether he did or whether permission to do so was even granted or not, but still a thoughtful gesture. Most would not have even thought to do something like that. The Epcor trouble crew are going to try and band-aid the problem so the 'stranded trolleys' can be driven back to WW, and not towed back. Looks like there will be diesels on the Route 5 on Sunday. I think that as long as there are trolleys out there should be some kind of a trolley crew available. They can do the regular stuff too I suppose. But what do I know ? Air Bags blowing up on the D40LF's seemed to be the 'malady' du jour. Unit # 4323 sat at WTC today looking rather rejected and forlorn. Funny, when a trolley sits with it's flashers on, it looks like it wants to power up and get going, when a diesel sits with it's flashers on, it looks like it would rather lay down and die. Just a whole different personality between the two types of units. As for actual power outages, a transformer apparently blew downtown. Our computers went down briefly. Thank Goodness I wasn't in the middle of an intriguing card game
  19. I like the rear window too. That way you can see if the bus you want to transfer to is approaching the bus that you are on.
  20. Awesome, thanks for sharing. I really like the monorail
  21. Yeah, he does have white hair and is a bit long in the tooth
  22. I don't think it's so much setting the poles as it is turning the master control switch to off, waiting, and then on again that helps 'reset' the bus. Bill was doing this with # 166 when it had some 'power' issues.
  23. It's the 'Head' of the Dragon Costume that our trolley wears in the Lunar New Year Parade http://etspe.ca/special/dragontrolley-06/dragontrolley.php
