The Optima Bus Opus is a low floor bus introduced by Chance Coach. It is currently marketed by the Optima brand of NABI Inc. It is based off the design of the Wright Pulsar and utilizes the Wright Aluminique™ modular bolted aluminum system. This system combines great structural strength with low overall weight. The lighter overall weight offers better fuel economy and less pollution, noise and wear and tear on streets. The bus' modular construction and split pillar design permits fast, economical repairs. In addition, the Opus' heavy-duty chassis, developed by Optima, offers a minimum service life of 12 years or 500,000 miles.
The bus is available in 30 or 35 foot lengths with the option of one or two doors. A design designated the Streamlined design was made available in 2006. This design has a more sloping rounded front with headlights altered accordingly, and has a length of 32 feet. Currently, the only operator of this model is Miami-Dade Transit.
There is a hybrid version of the Opus available utilizing the ISE Corporation ThunderVolt system.
