Benjamin
I would think virtually all of the Crown/Ikarus artics used Cummins NHHTC engines and Allison HT740 transmissions, correct? I know TriMet's order of 87 did, even though, according to some people who worked there, they later changed to Detroit Diesel 6L71TA engines around 1986-87.But as to the Orion/Ikarus artics, the OC Transpo units from 1985 and '86 all used Cummins NHHTC-300 Big Cam III engines and Allison HT747 transmissions (except #8615 which was a test bed for the 1987 and '88 O/I artics which used the Detroit Diesel 6L71TA engines and ZF Ecomat 5HP590 transmissions). All of Toronto Transit Commission's O/I artics had the same powertrain as OC Transpo #8753-8764 and #8841-8869.OC Transpo's O/I artics:8501-8533, 8601-8614, 8616-8655 and 8719-8752 all used Cummins NHHTC-300 Big Cam III engines and Allison HT747 transmissions. (The HTB748 ATEC transmission with the push-button keypad, I believe, was later on in the fleet's lifespan)8615, 8753-8764 and 8841-8869 all used Detroit Diesel 6L71TA engines and ZF Ecomat 5HP590 transmissions.Toronto Transit Commission's O/I artics all used Detroit Diesel 6L71TA engines and ZF Ecomat 5HP590 transmissions:Units #6360-6419 are 1987-88 models, while units #6530-6559 are 1989 models. Select units from both fleets were rehabbed after acquisition by OC Transpo to become units #8875-8899.~Ben Edited August 15, 2015 by Benjamin
tramrunner
I hope, you will find this link useful http://www.oocities....own_ikarus.html As of me, for whom IKARUS 280 falls to be a "graphic definition of what is the bus" it is very interesting to know about such buses in North America. I.e. their veriants. It is very funny to see constructive elements of American buses on native Ikaruses, which used to be routine for me. Are there some IKARUS 286 buses still on run, in USA/Canada? tomsbuspage
Are there some IKARUS 286 buses still on run, in USA/Canada? Every Canadian Orion III/Ikarus 286 has been retired, and as far as I know the same is true of the American Crown/Ikarus buses as well. Only three Canadian transit systems and nine US agencies ordered the buses and they would have been retired years ago. Ottawa and Toronto retired their Orion/Ikarus buses in 2003 and not one was preserved. OC Transpo had set 8501 aside for their historic fleet with 8529 to be used for parts, both built in 1985, but the two buses were scrapped due to budget cuts in 2008. captaintrolley
You're welcome. I was happy to collect stuff back when the collecting was good. I am also pleased that my collection is in good hands and thrilled that it is going up on the internet for all to enjoy. Better than sitting inside a dark filing cabinet where it does no good.
