$20 million has been added to the bugdet for East Link light rail, red line, due the first floating bridge with light rail transit on it. It will be safe to ride when it's open:

East Link will be part of the Blue Line. (Source)

Honestly, the Times editor can fuck off with his fear-mongering NIMBYism. He calls out a few projects that aren't even built/managed by Sound Transit (Bertha is a WSDOT project, Mercer is an SDOT project, SODO is a WSDOT project, the [sR 520] cracked pontoons is a WSDOT project and I-90 is a WSDOT/FHWA project). You can't connect the dots when there's different agencies with very different track records involved.

There are a couple of company's that do this sort of conversion. One is in New York or Jersey, and there may be one in CA as well. They basically cut the roof off starting at the front doors and build a new deck on top, install a staircase somewhere inside the vehicle, make it look nice on the outside and call it good. Usually the insides of the couple I have been in are chop jobs, they dress them up the best they can but its by no means an OEM install.

Thank you. That website is making me lol!

Do you know when they will arrive?

The answer to that question lies in the very link you just clicked. Sometimes you'll find what you're looking for if you do a little digging yourself. Perhaps, it may even be right in front of you.

The damage to the coach while major, is nothing a competent bodyshop cant rebuild. Over the years i have seen several new flyers recieve front end rebuilds after accidents. It may take the bodyshop 6 months after they first start working on it, but it will more than likely get rebuilt and put back into service. Especally given the fact they are not due for replacement yet and Sound Transit always seems chronically short on equipment.

I've seen photos of King County Metro 2705 and 2708 with significant front end damage (like this one). They were eventually returned to service.
