  1. They can not be turned off. What do you think we are getting here? These are Orion VIIs we are talking about. An Orion VII breaking down should not be a surprise, it should be an expectation.
  2. Your analogy of the 161 Rogers Rd bus is not complete. I have driven the route enough times to know that the section on Dovercourt is just as busy as the section along Rogers Rd. In addition to Ossington Station, many of the people who travel along the Rogers Rd. portion get on at St. Clair. People will take any service if it gets them closer to their destination. That's why having service on Dovercourt south of Bloor to Queen and a Bevery-St. George bus is not such a bad idea. Remember there was streetcar service on Dovercourt between Bloor and College at one time with parallel service on Ossington for part of the way provided by the Harbord car. This is not about stealing passengers from one route to another, its about providing passengers with a choice and a more dense network of transit. Using your analogy, why has the TTC bothered keeping the Wellesley bus since the portion on Harbord runs closely parallel to Bloor. It is practically the same distance from Harbord to Bloor as it is from Dovercourt to Ossington. I am definitely in favour of running a 27 Dovercourt, and an 18 Beverly-St. George service. As well, there should be other services: 93 Brock. Bloor - Exhibition. The loop at the the top would be N Brock, E Bloor, S Dufferin, W Croatia, S Brock. At Queen it would then use Dufferin and go down to the West gates. 47 Lansdowne should go down to Lake Shore. via S Jameson, W Lake Shore, N Dowling, E King, N Jameson. 114 Jarvis. St. Clair Stn. - Queen's Quay. From St. Clair Stn. E St. Clair, S Mt. Pleasant/Jarvis, E Queen's Quay, N Sherbourne, E Lake Shore, S Bonnycastle, W Queen's Quay, N Jarvis. 118 Logan. Cosburn - Lake Shore. From Lake Shore, N Logan all the way Gowan (1 block S of Cosburn), E Gowan, S Carlaw all the way to Gerrard, W Gerrard, S Logan, E Eastern, S Carlaw, W Lake Shore. 13 Neville Park. Bring it back full time.
  3. Bring back 163 Rustic Road. Separate the 59 branches so that one bus runs to Weston via Gary and back via Gary, the other via Church both ways. Have both branches terminate at Knob Hill. This eliminates the awful huge on street loop.
  4. Just rip the sticker down. It will inevitably happen anyway the same way the people rip down the station advertisement wraps.
  5. Some of the fishbowls have had this new chime installed as well. However, the OrionVs with the old style chime the striker stays in the "strike" position until the doors have opened, and a full "pong" with the new electric ones. With the fishbowls the bell cord acts as a momentary on which is fine with the old chimes, but with the new electric chimes it will produce a short "pip" if the cord is pulled quickly. If the cord is pulled and held it will sound the full "pong". Is there anyway of correcting this on the GMs?
  6. Come on..... It doesn't take debit. Like I said in the previous post...
  7. Unfortunately the person who started the topic neglected to read the information correctly. The machine will not accept debit, bills, or give change. It will only take exact change, or credit cards.
  8. Bills will not be accepted, nor will change be given. Re-read the notice... They should do all of the above though.
  9. Sure, drop wages and watch the transit system deteriorate even further, its a slippery slope. Do you think you will find the calibre of people needed to be operators when the wage is $10-$15/hr? Absolutely not. Why is it that - in the eyes of the ignorant that operators are "paid too much" - there isn't a line up out the door of the TTC Employment office 3 miles long of people trying to get in on all the loot? Drive a bus, get paid $28/hr! Easy as pie! WRONG! Operating a transit bus is one of the most stressful jobs out there. Operators are in a constant state of dealing with traffic, people, schedule, and having responsibility for the equipment and the lives of people on board. Sure there are a few bad apples, but there are almost 6 000 operators, and the TTC weeds out thousands of lame duck applicants every year. For many you couldn't pay them enough to be an operator and that is why there isn't the big frenzy of people trying to become one. When the wages drop, turnover increases, training costs increase, and safety goes down. For example, at one time, SEPTA (Philadelphia) operator starting wage was around $13/hr, and the progression to full wage took 5 years. Operator turn over was extremely high, as they weren't paid enough to actually really care and feel that their job was worth it. This breeds incompetence, and lots of crashes. Why would a $13/hr transit operator continue to put up with all this stress, when he could make the same wage working at Best Buy or driving a school bus, and have much less responsibility? School bus drivers do not have to generally abide by a strict schedule with timing points along the entire route, collect fares, or provide a public transit style type service. Like I said earlier, there will be bad apples no matter how much you pay them, its a fact of life in every type of employment, and I agree 100% that these individuals should be dealt with. However, we are products of the environment we work in. Try driving a bus for 8 - 10 hours per day with no breaks, and having people yelling and screaming because the bus is late caused by tight schedules set by management. Having people yelling and screaming because you stepped off the bus for 2 minutes to quickly grab a coffee, so you can stay alert and perform your duties to the best of your abilities. No matter what the hourly rate is, we are all human, and there is only so much stress we can deal with all at once. Wishing to lower the wages of public transit workers based on how you think you know how to do their jobs, and wishing them to be poor just like other poor people is ridiculous. Perhaps we should say the same thing to Police, Ambulance, or Fire Service unions. "I would put out that fire, but I only make $13/hr so its not really worth my time, or the danger involved.... Even with all of the evils, I still like my job.
  10. ATM no, coffee yes. Rarely is there a coffee place at the end of the line for an operator to make a quick stop. Is it not fair for operators to have a coffee so that they can be alert and be fit for duties for the rest of their shift? Or is your personal schedule far too important to allow for any rational thought? Many people - not just operators - drink coffee to stay alert. I would rather have a 1-2 minute delay for a coffee, than have a tired and therefore impaired driver responsible for a $750,000 piece of equipment and hundreds of lives. Seriously, give me a break....
  11. 2481 hasn't seen service in months. It was parked behind the wall for quite some time.
  12. 4089 has had a "weak" gong for more than a year now. I suspect that it is just a different type of gong, not one of the rebuilt/refurbed PCC gongs like in the rest of the fleet. I made some video recordings of Philadelphia Trolleys a while back and the gongs used in those sound exactly like the gong in 4089.
  13. Makemelaugh, in theory these buses should have similar handling characteristics as the Eighty-Hundreds. 1. I would surely hope so! 2. They tried that with the Orion VI low floors, as far as I know they squealed like no tomorrow. 3. Option 2.
  14. The beginning of the end has started. The fishy holocaust is nigh. The days of the good old buses are quickly dwindling, and are about to dwindle even more quickly. 8100 is at Wilson. Same garbage as the 1700s other than the obvious. Nothing of any importance has changed. The tranny selector is on the side panel beside the operator. The exhaust stack is HUGE! especially with the fart can looking extension they put on it. Its a shame such crap is killing off the fishies!
  15. See the Upcoming Events section for information regarding an upcoming TTC '91 Orion V Charter.
  16. The hill on Bathurst is the problem. If an ALRV breaks down and needs to be coupled and brought down or pushed up, however the situation may be, during certain types of weather this can be quite difficult.
  17. With all due respect smallspy, I've slugged it out on Jane and Finch West with a useless 76xx enough times to know that on many of those units the rear doors take much longer than 5 seconds to fully close. Then add in the extra 1 second delay for the door interlock to release after the fact! Either way, and I think you can even agree on this, they are total garbage!
  18. The loop is still partly there, you just have to go off roading and curb hopping. The signal priority is garbage!
