  1. 0110 was in service this morning. I drove by it along Eglinton between Matheson and Renforth.
  2. 7677 seen with a rack yesterday on the 100.
  3. At least the site which the reports are hosted is still up. Whether it will be updated at all will be another story. The last entries in there are only up to July 10, 2008. Maybe it is only dormant for now for the summer... TTC Reports In regards to the service summaries, assuming they will be updated. If they are not linked from the new site, one thing to try would be taking the link to the existing one, and changing the date on it. http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/pdf/service_summary_2008_06_22.pdf Change it to the start date of the board period your looking for, http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/pdf/service_summary_2008_08_31.pdf This is of course assuming that the TTC keeps that end of things the same... I've tried for the next period, and it doesn't work. But hopefully it will work in the coming weeks...
  4. It almost looks like you could hold a bus rodeo there with all those pylons!
  5. I think the idea of subways all over Mississauga would be a bit of an overkill. I don't want this to come across with an "anti-car" sentiment but... A subway or some form of "higher order transit" could work along a central E-W corridor, and a N-S central corridor (Hwy 10) to provide a backbone to an overall system, much like the way Toronto is set up. It has worked in Toronto for as long as I can remember, and I think it would be an easy system to remember for most. Although Mississauga was obviously built up to serve the car, and not transit. If there were better transit in Mississauga, I could bet that there would be much less cars on the road. If you take away a lane for private automobiles, and give it over to transit, your giving the impression that cars are evil, and the other generic arguments that come up with CAA types... If done right, that lane you took away from automobiles has more capacity to handle more buses that hopefully more people will ride. The overall capacity of the road is increased, but it appears reduced as there are more cars clogging what was once there. I guess you will get an idea of where I'm going with that, but the bottom line is that the car dependency needs to be reduced by having a public transit system with guts. It will benefit everyone, including the ones that will swear by their car, and never set foot on public transit, as increased transit use results in less cars on the road...
  6. I work overnight, so I am commuting to Mississauga in the evening, and back to Toronto in the morning. The Click 'n Ride suggests that I take 3 different routes, all of which have less than 4 minutes between transfers. That's too close for comfort, as if one transfer is missed, then I'm more or less screwed. I have found that the 20 then 66 seems to be safe enough with roughly 10 minute transfer allowance, and still get to work with 15 minutes to spare. That is the easiest way I have found so far. The 27 would be a perfect route to use, but the problem is: A- Rush hour only B- Goes the opposite direction when it would actually be useful to me in the morning If Eglinton was only a 10 minute walk to Britannia, then the 35 would be the best option. But there are no convenient transfer times to the 66, and the 20+ minute walk if I can't catch the 66. I actually work in Mississauga, and live in Toronto. I will agree that Mississauga is a very congested place. It takes roughly 10 minutes to make the left hand turn from EB Britannia to NB Hurontario, at 4 in the afternoon. That's just asinine! And it's like that all over the place. The bombardment of trucks in that area isn't helping things. What can be done to relieve some of the traffic strain? What can you think of as a "Mississauga solution"? The city is already built the way it is, and thus, we need to work within those confines. I guess any sort of soulution(s) will have to be shoehorned in. What could work? No matter how small the suggestion, I would love to hear some ideas!
  7. As somebody who works in Mississauga, I commute from Toronto 5 days a week. I agree that traffic is horrendous at times. I would love to take transit most of the time, but I drive there because transit simply takes too long. If the transitway can cut the amount of time spent on MT, then I would definitely use it over the car. Most of my commute is spent on MT, and I'm coming from Broadview/Danforth. The TTC portion is around 40 minutes, while my MT portion is about 1 hour 20 minutes. I'm sure that if transit could compete with the car in terms of travel time, or at least somewhat comparable, then I'm sure that more people would make the switch. The problem is that transit is not made to be a priority in Mississauga. Look at York Region. I can make the trip to Newmarket from Finch in about 1 hour. Figure that a 30 km commute on VIVA from Finch, is faster than a 20 km commute from Islington to McLaughlin/Britannia. It sure makes the car look mighty appealing in this case for Mississauga.
  8. I was going off of this post here, and I may have been a bit hasty in my response, assuming it was indeed a Bell ad. The word ShowSaver has "er" at the end of it, much like Porter Airlines. Now, with not one spec of information available on the net about this "ShowSaver" I am now a bit skeptical that it is a Bell ad.
  9. In response to the construction, I guess short term pain equals long term gain. If the Transitway can be successful at reducing car usage in the areas that it passes, well then you will see less cars making noise. I would rather a bus passing every 10 or so minutes, than putting up with the non-stop car/truck traffic. If the Transitway can pave the way for some form of higher-order transit (read: LRT) property values will surely increase. As the price of oil rises, less people will want to drive, let alone if it will be affordable for some. Living near speedy transit corridors will become more desirable in the coming years, again, due to rising oil prices. Where the demand for housing goes up, so do the values of the property.
  10. Yeah, that's the one! It's all beginning to make sense to me now! I never put two and two together for that one. I feel like I had a blond experience again! About the "ShowSaver." I cannot seem to find anything on the net about it, or anywhere on the Bell site. I already have the ExVu PVR, so I assume I won't be missing much
  11. As long as it makes some connection between Kipling or Islington station, Sq1, to the western edge of Mississauga, it would be quite useful. There aren't any quick options for getting from Toronto to Sq1 and beyond. The fastest route to Sq1 from Islington is the 20 which usually takes around 40 minutes give or take, when it can be driven in less than 20. The only other route that I can think of that even came close to that time was the now defunct 86 Burnhamthorpe Express. How long did the 86 take to get to Sq1? It's been so long, I can't remember how long it took...
  12. Since Sunday morning, I have been noticing numerous ads plastered all over the TTC on subways, buses, and streetcars. The ads only say "er" placed in random spots (there are about 3-4 variations) and there are blue lines in random spots. Does anyone have any idea what could come of these ads, or who is behind them? There are also other ads that are all over that I cannot figure out for the life of me that seem to be part of a series together. One is for "Scotty Burger" another is for "T-shirts" and another for some barber shop. All of these ads are for fictitious places, and these ones have been boggling me for a while now. Anybody know the deal with these ads?
  13. I can't seem to find the note I had in my cell for this, but it was 76X3 (I believe 7683) had a bike rack on the 100, spotted Monday evening.
  14. My freeware solutions seem to work very well for me. With the right combination of AVG Free, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, and Firefox, as well as all the XP updates and latest Service Packs, I have NEVER had any problems with viruses, etc...
