The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District or MTD is a transit agency in the southern portion of Santa Barbara County, California , serving the cities of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and Goleta as well as the unincorporated areas of Montecito, Summerland, and Isla Vista. Commuter service to Buellton and Solvang is provided through the Valley Express service.

History

The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District was created in 1968 after the passage of a ballot measure. The district was created in order to develop a single transit system in the area and protect the public interest. MTD first began operation with 12 buses.[1]
