Brooklyn Navy Yard Shuttle

The Brooklyn Navy Yard operates two shuttle routes to/from the Navy Yard, one to DUMBO-High Street, the other to Atlantic Terminal and Fort Greene.

Their fleet is as follows:

81xx series - 2017 Grande West Vicinity buses, 8178-8182, 8192 (buses track without the "81" prefix.)

82xx series - 2017 Grande West Vicinity buses - ex-Grande West demo, 8209 and 8210. These buses were bought to replace spare buses #101 and #102, which are Freightliner cutaways. These buses HAVE NOT entered service yet.

1xx series - 2011 Freightliner cutaways - 101 and 102. Spare buses, painted in a red scheme.

Former fleet:

#1, 2015 Arboc Spirit of Liberty

#2, 2015 Starcraft Bus Allstar XL cutaway

Both were replaced by the 81xx series.

The buses track at bny.transloc.com.

Also, the wiki here: https://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php/Brooklyn_Navy_Yard_Shuttle, needs to be updated with the above info.

Interesting! The 81xx series use the last four digits of the VIN as the fleet number. If this is the same for the two 82xx buses, that would indicate that they were not actually demonstrators; they would be ex-Transit Cape Breton 7096-7097, which were sold off last year.

The person I talked with said that the 82xx buses were ex-demonstrators, but I am not sure. They do not have US plates or titles yet, so I can't run a vincheck. They are currently sitting at the storage facility. However, I may make another trip out there to see if they are still there.

Could just be misinformation or something. The Cape Breton buses were sent to City View in Toronto, who used to function as a distributor/local sales rep for Grande West. That could be where that assumption re: demonstrator came from.

Well what facility are they at? They could possibly be there awaiting maintenance, following maintenance, or just there awaiting delivery depending on what facility theyre at.

They are at the storage facility of BNY, not the main depot. Where 101 and 102 are stored.

That’s probably what it is. I wonder when they will enter service.

Spare 1 and 2 are tracking right now, I wonder if the transponders from the internationals were put into 8209 and 8210, and they just forgot to change the #?

*sorry for the late response*

Nope, those are 101 and 102, i went down there and checked. Spare 3 might be 8209/8210 but im not sure.

Went down there to check if there were any Vicinity buses.

Apparently, the BNY is actually changing operators. When you check the Shuttle Services page, there's a service alert that says:

There will be lapses in bus tracking as we transition between shuttle service operators. We appreciate your patience during this time and will continue to provide shuttle service as per our current posted schedules. If you would like to view or download the most current shuttle schedules, please go to https://brooklynnavyyard.org/visit/directions-map

Spares 1 and 2 are now cutaways operated by Trans Express; the same guys that do a bunch of other shuttle services like the Resort World Casino and the IKEA shuttle. Trans Express has a large assortment of average Ford cutaways.

I was pretty disappointed to find that out when I saw a large F550 shuttle.  :(

I actually don't know who the previous operator was.

So the vicinity buses are gone?
