Grand River Transit 21301-21333
Grand River Transit 21301-21333 are New Flyer XD40 buses built in 2013.
On September 25, 2012, GRT accepted a contract from New Flyer Industries for 123 diesel buses between 2013 and 2017 based on a 2013 price per bus of $490,420[1]. The first 18 buses were approved in the September council meeting, while the last 15 were approved in the November council meeting[2], signifying the increased need for buses for service expansion and retiring the 9200s.
The first of buses arrived around April 2013, however they failed MTO inspections in June and were not put into revenue service until late July. They were taken off the road again in early August due to floor and braking issues, and were finally reinstated in late August. Various lingering issues remain such as high turning radius and lack of heat in the drivers area, which eventually affected the contract with New Flyer by 2014.
