Central Contra Costa Transit Authority or The County Connection is a public transit agency operating fixed-route bus and paratransit (County Connection LINK) service in and around central Contra Costa County in the San Francisco Bay Area. It serves the communities of Alamo, Antioch, Concord, Clayton, Clyde, Diablo, Danville, Dublin, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Orinda, Pacheco, Pittsburg, Pleasanton, Pleasant Hill, Rossmoor, San Ramon & Walnut Creek.

History

Transit service in Central Contra Costa county was initially provided by Oakland-based AC Transit as it expanded into suburban Contra Costa County in the mid-1970s.

CCCTA assumed control of the public bus service in 1980 as a joint powers authority.

  • 101 was bought by Oasis of Hollywood in Hollywood, CA. Its registration was last renewed in 2013 and it was eventually sold off.[2][3][4]
  • 102 & 121 were sold to StarTran and became 76 & 77 circa 1997. It is unknown if more units were sold.
  • 120 & 122 to Santa Clarita Transit 126-127 circa 1997. There may have been more units that were sold to Santa Clarita.
  • Some units were sold to Tri-Delta Transit and became their 1200 series in the late 1990's. 1260 was spotted running in 1997.[5]
  • Some units were bought by Transit Sales International.
    • 1 unit renumbered in the 3500 series (same as 3506) was spotted in the 2000's.
  • Some units were bought by Coach Crafters Inc.
    • 1 unit renumbered 3506 was spotted for sale in 2001.[6]

    • 801 was leased to an unknown agency circa 2003-2004. It was sold to Herkimer County, NY and became Mobile Command Support Unit 102/C22 in 2004.[10] It was auctioned off as a non-runner on 8/10/2018 and was likely scrapped.
    • 803 was last spotted at the Transit Sales International Murrieta, CA yard in May 2010. (Lic. Plate: 5VZD011).[11]
    • 804 & 805 were leased to Marguerite Shuttle (Stanford University) as 105 & 107, Beach Cities Transit as 105 & 107 and Golden Gate Transit as 509 & 510 throughout 2005.[12] 804 was last spotted in an unknown orange livery at the Transit Sales International Murrieta, CA yard in May 2010. (Lic. Plate: 5ERB560).[11]
    • 806 was leased or sold to Ilusion Norteña, a band in Patterson, CA. It was spotted running in Las Vegas, NV in February 2006.[13]
    • 1 unit wearing a livery similar to CATA was last spotted at the Transit Sales International Murrieta, CA yard in May 2010.[11]

  • Retired around the late 1980's.
    • Bought by private owner Ron Hook. It was repainted back into the AC Transit paint scheme and was stored in Hayward, CA. He scrapped it in the late 2000's due to a major engine issue.
